    We are seeking a dedicated and hands-on HR Generalist to support the day-to-day human resources needs of a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This role plays a critical part in fostering a positive, inclusive, and compliant workplace culture while ensuring employees are supported through all stages of their employment lifecycle.

    The HR Generalist will take a lead role in employee relations, leave management, and benefits administration, while also supporting recruitment, onboarding, and HR operations. This position requires a collaborative, service-oriented professional who is comfortable balancing multiple priorities and responding to the evolving needs of a nonprofit environment. The position has a work location in Bloomfield and includes regular travel within the state to support assigned entities.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Employee Relations (Core Responsibility)
      • Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers, promoting a respectful and inclusive workplace aligned with organizational values.
      • Manage employee relations issues, including conducting investigations, resolving conflicts, and providing recommendations.
      • Coach supervisors on performance management, employee engagement, and disciplinary actions.
      • Conduct exit and stay interviews and identify trends to improve retention and workplace culture.
    • Leave Management & Compliance (Core Responsibility)
      • Administer all employee leave processes, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other state and nonprofit-specific leave policies.
      • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees navigating leave, ensuring compassionate and timely communication.
      • Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of all leave requests.
      • Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, ACA, ERISA).
      • Collaborate with leadership on return-to-work plans and reasonable accommodations.
    • Benefits Administration (Core Responsibility)
      • Coordinate and support the administration of employee benefits programs (health, dental, wellness, etc.).
      • Assist with open enrollment, benefits education, and communication tailored to a nonprofit workforce.
      • Respond to employee questions regarding benefits eligibility and coverage.
      • Maintain benefits records and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and reporting.
      • Work with brokers and vendors to ensure cost-effective and competitive benefits offerings.
    • HR Operations & Generalist Support
      • Manage pre-employment activities such as background checks, reference verifications, and new hire documentation.
      • Maintain HRIS data, employee files, and required compliance reporting
      • Assist in developing and implementing HR policies, procedures, and training programs.
      • Provide guidance to employees on HR-related policies, benefits, payroll, and workplace practices.
      • Support organizational initiatives that enhance employee engagement and align with the nonprofit mission.


    Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
    • 3+ years of HR experience in a generalist or similar role, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
    • Ability and willingness to travel within the state for meetings, trainings, and to provide in-person support to assigned entities.
