About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dependable individual to serve as a 1:1 Special Education Aide within our early childhood classroom. This position plays a vital role in supporting the growth, safety, and development of a young learner who benefits from consistent, individualized guidance throughout the school day.
Additionally, this role includes assisting with school-wide community needs, including after-lunch recess supervision and providing classroom support to an older student in the early afternoon.
Position Schedule & Details
Hours: 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM (Monday through Friday)
Calendar: Follows the standard school year calendar
Start Date: August 24, 2026
Key Responsibilities
Individualized Support: Provide direct, dedicated 1:1 support to a student with unique learning, developmental, and behavioral needs.
Routine & Instruction Assistance: Help the student successfully navigate classroom routines, social activities, and daily instruction under the guidance of the lead teacher and special education team.
Personal Care: Assist the student with vital personal care needs, including toileting.
Behavioral Support: Implement individualized behavior support strategies. The ideal candidate must remain calm, supportive, and resilient in the face of behavioral challenges, which may occasionally include elopement (running) or physical resistance (e.g., kicking or hitting).
School Community Assistance: Supervise students during after-lunch recess and transition to support an older student in their classroom during the early afternoon.
Collaboration & Communication: Maintain clear, consistent communication and work closely with classroom teachers, support staff, and the special education team to ensure a cohesive care environment.
Reliability: Demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality to ensure consistent, predictable support for the student.
Ideal Candidate Qualities
Licensure: Holds a Wisconsin Special Education Program Aide license (#1015) or is willing and eligible to obtain one.
Experience: Prior experience working with young children or individuals with special needs is preferred, but a strong desire to learn and support children is most important.
Demeanor: Possesses a compassionate, flexible, patient, and calm demeanor under pressure.
Physical Capability: Physically able to assist a young child with toileting, mobility, and managing occasional physical behavioral challenges safely.
Professionalism: Ability to strictly maintain student confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
