Landscape Technician

Department: Grounds Reports to: Skilled Maintenance Supervisor Placement: Classified Non-exempt Salary Schedule Term: See Duty Day Calendar

Position Summary: Maintains the grounds of all district schools in a condition of safety, neatness and aesthetic attractiveness, so that students, employees and the community may be provided with an o utdoor environment that is both pleasing to look at as well as being functional.

Essential Functions: Maintains accurate records. Monitors site grounds. Discusses with Maintenance Supervisor/Pl ant Foreman action plans to improve areas in need. Responds to these needs based on priorities and resources. Assists in the training of Groundskeepers. Assists in landscaping maintenance tasks. Communicates effectively practices between administration, staff, grounds personnel and Maintenance Supervisor. Fills-in in any capacity required to fulfill district and departmental goals. Coordinates the application of insecticides/herbicides and othe r chemicals according to all federal, state and/or local regulations. Compliance with EPA, OSHA, ADOT, the state Pesticide Board and all other federal, state, city or district inspections and requirements. Recommends supplies and equipment to be purchased. Maintains the inventory of district assigned tools, equipment and supplies. Operates grounds equipment, such as trencher, dump truck, front loader, back hoe, tractors and other heavy equipment/machines, as needed. Performs any technical duties as needed, i.e., herbicide applic ations, sprinkler repairs, improvement, projects, fertilization and other cultural practices and special requests from Maintenance Supervisor. Performs irrigation, herbicide/pesticide and landscaping-related duties as requested by the Maintenance Supervisor. Ensures that all work is completed in accordance with District policy and applicable state and federal laws. Performs all other duties assigned by Supervisor.

Training and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years of experience in herbicide use and procedures. Minimum of 2 years of experience in landscaping procedures. Minimum of 2 years of experience in sprinkler repairs and installation. Experience in the installation, repairs and maintenance of water systems. Experience in cost estimating. Experience in planting and maintaining shrubs, trees and other greenery is required.

Licensing/Certification Requirements: Arizona Driver's License and ability to obtain CDL license. State Pest Control Board Certification for spraying herbicides in school environment.
