POSITION SUMMARY: The responsibilities of the Material Handler/Backup driver will include, but are not limited to, picking orders, staging orders, and loading trucks. Additional responsibilities will include covering PTO time for CDL-A Transfer Driver routes in an automatic 48ft - 53ft tractor trailer. The majority of the position will be within the warehouse, with about 15% of the role being spent driving. For the warehouse portion of the role, the shift will go from 7:30am-4pm. When covering for a driver, the shift will start at 6:30am -3pm. When driving, you will make roughly 10 stops per day and will do occasional unloading using an electric pallet jack.
The ideal candidate must have a solid work history, excellent attendance record and is customer focused. You will have ample notice of when you'll be covering for the drivers. Experience with operating a stand up forklift and electric pallet jack are preferred. A valid CDL A license and experience with operating a sit-down forklift is required.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pull, pack, stage or convert orders for shipment using a computer generated work order or verbal instruction from supervisor. Package material for shipment according to shipping requirements and/or customer specified instruction. Ensure that all product/shipping labels are legible. Include job and order numbers on order tickets. Use computer equipment to generate labels, check stock, input data for shipping status, prepare UPS/FedEx shipments and create shipping manifests. Load trucks making sure: truck is chocked before attempting to unload and load product; truck bed is clear of debris, obstruction or defect for safe entry/exit; incoming product is free from damage and coincides with packing list or return authorization; and freight is properly positioned and secured in the truck. Responsible for properly securing loads for delivery. Accurately complete and maintain all forms and records legibly. Perform housekeeping duties to keep work area clean and free of debris. Obey traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures. Perform pre and post trip inspections on vehicle. Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles. Comply with all safety rules and regulations. Verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers Drive vehicles with capacities under three tons in order to transport materials to and from specified destinations such as railroad stations, plants, residences and offices, or within industrial yards. Other duties as assigned.
