Description
Position Summary
The Parts Clerk is responsible for maintaining the inventory of maintenance, repair, and operating (MRO) parts used in a food manufacturing facility. This position ensures accurate inventory records, timely ordering of replacement parts, and efficient distribution of parts to the maintenance team to minimize equipment downtime. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and proficient with computer-based inventory management systems.
Key Responsibilities
Receive, inspect, and stock maintenance parts, supplies, and equipment.
Maintain accurate inventory records using computerized inventory management software.
Issue parts to maintenance personnel and accurately record all transactions.
Monitor inventory levels and reorder parts as needed to maintain appropriate stock.
Work with vendors to obtain pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
Process purchase orders and receive shipments in the companys ERP or inventory system.
Perform routine cycle counts and assist with physical inventory audits.
Organize the parts room to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
Identify obsolete or excess inventory and recommend appropriate action.
Maintain documentation for warranties, equipment manuals, and supplier information.
Follow all company safety policies, food safety requirements, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
Assist the Maintenance Manager with reports and other administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Previous experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, maintenance storeroom, or parts management preferred.
Experience in a manufacturing or food production environment is a plus.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Computer Skills (Required)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Experience using computerized inventory management or ERP systems (such as SAP, CMMS, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
Ability to accurately enter, update, and retrieve inventory data.
Comfortable using barcode scanners and other computerized warehouse equipment.
Basic data entry and report generation skills.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of industrial maintenance parts, bearings, motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical components.
Ability to read parts catalogs, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
Strong communication and customer service skills when supporting maintenance personnel and vendors.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
This position works in both an office and manufacturing environment. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required while in production areas. The Parts Clerk must follow all food safety, sanitation, and safety regulations.
