This pool is for candidates interested in applying to be a Licensed Substitute and/or a Classified Substitute. Recruitment for this pool will begin in September 2026. Applications submitted before then will remain on file and be reviewed once hiring begins.

PLEASE NOTE: New substitutes must complete the hiring process, including attending an interview and orientation before they are elgible to accept substitute assignments.

Licensed Substitutes:

• Replace a regular classroom teacher in the event of an absence.
• Must hold a valid Colorado Teaching License or Substitute Authorization issued from the Colorado Department of Education.
• Prior experience working with students in a classroom setting is preferred.

Salary: $145-$165/day. See the website for a breakdown of the pay tiers.

Substitutes for Mountain Schools will be compensated for their mileage at 83.75 cents per mile.

Hours/day: Half day (up to 4 hours/day) or full day (more than 4 hours per day)

Work calendar days: Varied

Benefits include: PERA retirement

Classified Substitutes:

• Replace the classroom paraprofessional or clerical employee in the event of an absence.
• No teaching license is required for classified substitutes.
• Additional training is required for the positions listed below that have an * next to them.

Classified Substitutes Hourly Wages 2026-27:

• Crossing Guard*: $16.69
• Non-Instructional Paraprofessional: $16.69
• Instructional Paraprofessional: $18.35
• Media Tech: $18.35
• Health Tech*: $20.36
• Integrated Services Paraprofessional I: $19.65
• School Office Assistant: $20.04
• 504 Paraprofessional: $20.02
• Integrated Services Early Childhood Paraprofessional: $20.02
• Integrated Services Paraprofessional II: $20.42
• Integrated Services Medical Professional: $20.42

• Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to PSD (existing employees please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). PSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
