Title: 3D Print Technician (2 Openings)
Location: Newton, NC
Duration: 12 Months
Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM , Occasional OT
Travel Requirements:
- Project locations will range multiple locations within a small locale from Newton to Hickory, North Carolina.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time
- 40 hrs (overtime periodically expected). Due to the project timing; overtime and off-hours coverage may be necessary to successfully complete workload and keep in line with project goals.
Overtime:
- Minimal and infrequent.
- May occasionally stay late to complete an urgent print job supporting production.
- Location Based primarily at Trivium North (Newton, NC area)
- May support nearby plants within a 10-minute radius.

Job Description:
Purpose of the Job
The 3D Print Technician / Process Technician III is responsible for managing and operating the 3D printing lab, ensuring printed parts are produced efficiently and delivered to engineering and manufacturing teams. The role supports prototype development, project builds, and manufacturing operations by running, maintaining, troubleshooting, and prioritizing multiple 3D printing jobs. The technician also helps keep printers operating at optimal performance and ensures high-quality printed components are available when needed.
Job Summary
The Process Technician III plays both a hands-on technical and operational role in supporting cleanroom optical ribbon and fiber optic cable manufacturing. This position provides process expertise, equipment troubleshooting, and direct mechanical and design support. The role supports stable operations, continuous improvement, and production scale-up in a fast-growing manufacturing environment.
Applicants must have historical, hands-on experience in 3D modelling, design, printing, and testing of mechanical components, as well as be able to service and diagnose issues with 3D printing equipment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operations & Process Support
- Assist in setting up and starting ribbon lines to support Installation team efforts
- Design & implement mechanical solutions and process changes to improve capability of manufacturing equipment.
- Solve mechanical and process issues through data analysis, experience, and collaboration with subject matter experts
- Manage spare part identification and storeroom entry as recommended by suppliers or peer engineers; noting available spares within (2)-plant footprint
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety
- Collaborate with other departments to implement process improvements
2. 3D Printing, Modelling & Equipment Support
- Create, print and test 3D models in Autodesk Inventor modeling software
- Collaborate with team members to develop, implement, test and integrate equipment to optimize production processes
- Support preventive maintenance and equipment reliability initiatives
3. Equipment Installation Support
- Assist with new equipment installation, process transfers, and plant expansion efforts
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain 3D printers.
- Troubleshoot printer issues and replace parts as needed.
- Prepare files using slicing software.
- Deliver printed parts to build teams across nearby facilities.
- Support manufacturing/build operations with printed components.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related field preferred
- Extensive experience and proficiency in Autodesk Inventor 3D Modelling or Solidworks
- Historical hands-on experience in 3D modelling, design, printing, and testing mechanical components
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, specifications, and procedures
- Strong troubleshooting and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong knowledge in 3d printing and slicing
- Strong CAD experience
- Strong technical fundamentals and mechanical engineering/troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics
- Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced project install manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with PC software, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment

- Previous 3D printing experience.

- Printer maintaining, troubleshooting, replacing parts and components.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printers.
- CAD experience using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks. Not required but considered a bonus.
- Project-based manufacturing or prototyping experience.
