Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and skilled 5-Axle Combination Truck Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate has experience pulling various trailer combinations for transporting heavy construction equipment and high value cargo.
5-Axle OTR Driver Responsibilities:
Operate a 5-axle tractor-trailer to transport oversize and overweight loads locally and throughout California.
Safely load, secure, and unload specialized heavy equipment according to DOT and company standards.
Plan and follow permitted routes, understanding State regulations for oversize transport.
Verify all necessary permits and escort requirements for each load.
Conduct thorough pre-trip, in-route, and post-trip inspections of truck, trailer, and load securement.
Maintain accurate driving logs, inspection reports, and load documentation.
Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, escort vehicles, and permit office.
Troubleshoot and resolve basic mechanical issues when needed during trips.
Represent the company professionally with customers, at weigh stations, and during inspections.
Adhere strictly to all DOT regulations, company policies, and safety standards at all times.
Experience
Minimum 3-years of verifiable experience hauling oversize, overweight, or specialized loads.
Proven experience operating multi-axle trailers
Strong understanding of load securement techniques for heavy equipment, machinery, and irregular freight.
Familiarity with state and federal DOT regulations for oversize/overweight transport, including permitting and routing.
Experience planning and executing long-distance hauls across multiple states.
Ability to work with escort vehicles, pilot cars, and permit offices to ensure safe and legal transport.
Experience handling challenging loading and unloading situations at job sites, ports, or industrial yards.
Comfortable navigating various terrains, weather conditions, and tight access points while maintaining load integrity.
Previous TWIC card, HAZMAT endorsement, or specialized certifications (preferred but not required).
