    Job Description

    Michigan or San Jose, California

ORYX is conducting a retained search on behalf of a global semiconductor company seeking a Senior Field Applications Engineer to support strategic customers throughout North America.

This is an opportunity to join a highly technical customer-facing engineering organization where you'll work directly with engineers developing next-generation embedded systems, industrial equipment, connected devices, AI-enabled platforms, and advanced electronic products. You'll serve as the technical bridge between customers and engineering teams, helping customers successfully evaluate, design, debug, and deploy innovative semiconductor solutions.

    About the Company

Our client is a well-established global semiconductor company serving customers across industrial, automotive, consumer electronics, IoT, embedded computing, and intelligent edge applications. The company continues to invest heavily in advanced microcontrollers, embedded processors, security technologies, power management solutions, and AI-enabled computing platforms.

Engineers are attracted to this organization because of its collaborative culture, strong technical leadership, broad product portfolio, and opportunity to work directly with customers solving real-world engineering challenges. Team members enjoy meaningful technical ownership, exposure to a wide variety of applications, and the ability to influence future product development through direct engagement with the market.

    The Opportunity

As a Senior Field Applications Engineer, you'll become a trusted technical advisor throughout the customer design cycle. From early architecture discussions and component selection to hardware bring-up, debugging, validation, and production ramp support, you'll play a critical role in helping customers achieve successful product launches while driving strategic design wins.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys combining deep hardware expertise with customer interaction, technical problem solving, and business impact.

    What You'll Be Doing

    • Serve as the primary technical resource for strategic customers during product evaluation, development, validation, and production.
    • Support schematic reviews, PCB layout reviews, board bring-up activities, and system-level debugging.
    • Perform root-cause analysis and hardware troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and other laboratory equipment.
    • Recommend microcontroller, processor, analog, power management, and peripheral solutions based on customer requirements.
    • Conduct technical presentations, product demonstrations, workshops, and design reviews.
    • Collaborate closely with sales teams, channel partners, and engineering organizations to secure design wins and resolve complex technical issues.
    • Develop application notes, reference designs, troubleshooting guides, and technical documentation.
    • Gather customer feedback, market intelligence, and competitive insights to help influence future product direction.
    • Support hardware validation, performance benchmarking, and failure analysis efforts.

    What We're Looking For

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
    • 7+ years of experience in embedded hardware design, applications engineering, systems engineering, or field applications engineering.
    • Strong hands-on experience with schematic capture, PCB design, board bring-up, and hardware debugging.
    • Experience supporting customer designs and managing technical customer relationships.
    • Familiarity with modern microcontroller and embedded processor ecosystems.
    • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuits, embedded architectures, and power management.
    • Experience with interfaces such as SPI, I2C, I3C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and GPIO.
    • Hands-on proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other laboratory instrumentation.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

    Preferred Experience

    • Industrial, automotive, IoT, consumer electronics, or embedded computing applications.
    • Supporting OEM, ODM, distribution, or ecosystem partner engagements.
    • Hardware security, secure boot, low-power optimization, or edge AI applications.
    • Reference design development, validation planning, and production support.

    Why Consider This Opportunity?

    • Highly visible customer-facing engineering role.
    • Direct impact on customer success and product adoption.
    • Exposure to leading-edge embedded, AI, security, and power technologies.
    • Strong combination of technical depth and business influence.
    • Opportunity to work with a broad range of customers and applications.
    • Flexible location in either Michigan or San Jose, California.
    • Collaborative engineering culture with significant growth potential.
