POSITION: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)-full-time-35 hours per week

LOCATION: Southington Public Schools

SALARY: $19.43 per hour

$1.85 hourly rate adjustment for all hours worked and paid time off during the designated school year for the following programs: Comprehensive Learning Center, Specialized Learning Center, Therapeutic Learning Center, STELLAR

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

• Physically able to shadow students and model skills in all learning environments, including gym and playgrounds.

• Implement discrete trial instruction designed by certified staff and BCBA.

• Implement behavior intervention plans designed by teacher and BCBA to reinforce appropriate behaviors.

• Collect and input data into database as directed by certified staff.

• Required to work for up to six weeks during the summer in extended school year programs when needed.

• Required to participate yearly in a training session on behavioral de-escalation strategies and physical management techniques. (This may include hours beyond the typical workday; additional compensation will be provided).

• Able to model skills including gross motor, fine motor, play and social skills.

• Required to participate in and be assessed on explicit training modules in applied behavioral analysis in the areas of academic, social, behavioral, and self-help skills as assigned by certified teaching staff (this may include hours beyond the typical workday. Additional renumeration at hourly rate will be provided in these cases).

• Effectively communicate with certified teaching staff and/or BCBA.

• Experience working with students with behavioral challenges. QUALIFICATIONS: Successful completion of ABA training modules. Associate degree or higher is required. SOUTHINGTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS Special Education Services

Comprehensive Learning Center (Formerly LAUNCH, EASE, ACHIEVE) The intent of this self -contained classroom is to provide for students with significant and multiple disabilities whose learning requires developmentally appropriate curricula in functional academic, communication skills, life skills and social skill devel opment. It is a positive alternative for students whose needs would otherwise be met by outplacement in a private, special education facility, removed from their home community. This program enhances a student's connections to his/her community and prepares him/her for secondary and post -secondary options available within the Southington Public Schools. Another important component is developing parent -school-community partnership with high levels of communication and planning.

Preschool Integrated Program (PreK 3 & 4) Provides quality preschool center-based activities to three and four-year-old children in Southington. Some children enrolled are typically developing children who serve as peer models for those who require special education. The preschool staff use the Connecticut Preschool Curriculum Framework and Early Learning and Development Standards to prepare children for kindergarten.

Specialized Learning Center (Formerly SPACE) This self-contained program is designed to serve students who have been identified as having autism spectrum disorders. Program components include highly structured, individualized programming, intensive communication and language training, social skills training, utilization of natural environments for instruction, positive behavioral programming, educationally based sensory activities, as appropriate, and inclusion with mainstream peers and activities when appropriate.

STELLAR (Southington's Transitional Education in Life, Learning Adult Responsibilities) Grades 12+ STELLAR is a community-based transitional program designed for students with various developmental disabilities. Students in STELLAR have the unique opportunity to experience their 5th year of education in a community-based setting with their same aged peers with immediate access to all of downtown Southington's offerings, including the YMCA, stores, restaurants, various job sites, town establishments and more. Students in STELLAR have met the Southington High School's graduation requirements.

Therapeutic Learning Center (Formerly LIDS Primary, LIDS Intermediate, TEAM, CLP) Therapeutic Learning Center is designed to provide students with a safe, predictable, and structured setting which will optimize their learning potential and focus on building the appropriate social and pragmatic skills necessary for success in the general education setting.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapist

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
2. Experience or demonstrated interest in working with students with developmental, behavioral, or learning difficulties.
3. Physically able to support and model skills across all learning environments (classroom, gym, playground, community settings).
4. Able to model skills including gross motor, fine motor, play and social skills.

REPORTS TO: Building principal or designee

JOB GOAL: Provide instructional and behavioral support under the supervision of certified and/or licensed staff to help students acquire and generalize academic, behavioral, social and self-help skills through the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Effectively communicate with certified teaching staff, related services staff, and board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) about student performance and progress in academic, behavioral, social, and self-help areas.
2. Implement discrete trial instruction designed by certified staff and BCBA with assigned students.
3. Implement behavior intervention plans that are designed by the teacher and BCBA to reinforce appropriate behaviors and eliminate inappropriate behaviors, including disruption, aggression, or bolting.
4. Collect and input student level data as directed by certified staff, and/or the BCBA.
5. Conduct observation based assessments under the supervision of the BCBA.
6. Develop student-centered materials under the direction of certified or licensed staff (e.g., picture exchange, visual schedules).
7. Participate in parent training meetings with certified and/or licensed staff.
8. Perform all tasks under the direct supervision of certified special education staff and/or BCBA.
9. Perform other duties relating to student needs assigned by certified staff, and/or the BCBA.
10. Required to work for up to six weeks during the summer in extended school year programs, when needed.
11. Participate annually in training on behavior de-escalation and physical management techniques (training may occur beyond the typical workday; additional compensation will be provided).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Determined by the working agreement between the Southington Board of Education and the United Public Service Employees Union (UPSEU).

EVALUATION: To be evaluated annually by the building principal or designee.
