Description:

Serves as a senior advisor with advanced expertise. Handles complex advising scenarios, contributes to program development, and leads initiatives.

  1. Provides advanced advising for complex academic plans (double majors, transfer credits), as well as students in academic distress or special populations.

  2. Designs and implements student success programs and retention strategies.

  3. Trains and mentors Academic Advisor 1 & 2 staff.

  4. Interprets and applies university policies with discretion.

  5. Analyzes advising data and recommends improvements.

  6. Serves as liaison between academic departments and advising center.

  7. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Additional Position Information

This position works in the Office of Undergraduate Business Programs at the C. T. Bauer College of Business. This position engages with students to advise them on academic requirements for degree progress, course selection, policies, procedures, and resources based on an assessment of individual student needs.

Successful candidates will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, work well under pressure, consistently meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects while remaining flexible and positive. This will require exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

The selected candidate will be required to (including but not limited to):

  • Manage a high work volume with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advise students for an undergraduate program.
  • Processes academic forms and letters for an undergraduate program.
  • Process graduation applications for an undergraduate program.
  • Plan and execute events for undergraduate students.
  • Responsible for promoting Bauer majors and minors to Bauer undergraduate students; may include (but is not limited to):

o Advising Bauer students considering declaring a program as their major or minor

o Managing promotion and administrative processes related to specialty programs and/or certificates

o Participating in presentations to classes

o Conducting presentations to student organizations

o Be adaptable to change, as constant improvements are being made in advising.

Preferences:

  • Experience in Higher Education
  • Experience directly in academic advising

MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional disciplines. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related, 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
