Job Description

Job Duties: Deliver interactional academic advising experiences for assigned students,including specialized advising for student-athletes to help them balance academic and athleticcommitments. Provide supplemental advising and registration assistance to all currentundergraduate students, with particular attention to NAIA eligibility requirements for student-athletes. Ensure students understand and navigate the class registration process, understanddegree and general education requirements, and are aware of academic policies related to athleticparticipation. Teach the undergraduate Freshman Orientation 1-credit course each semester andany other undergraduate course as needed to support academic success initiatives including butnot limited to guidance, counseling. Address all areas of academic concerns with students,including tutoring, study skills, and time management, and connect student-athletes withappropriate academic support resources within the athletic department and broader university.Make referrals to other points of service such as counseling, financial aid, career services,student life, and disability services, collaborating closely with athletic department staff asneeded. Participate in professional development opportunities, staying current on best practicesin athletic advising and NAIA regulations. Remain current in high impact practices as related toacademic advising, student success, and higher education. Contribute to the success of thedepartment by completing all other duties as needed to promote the vision, fulfill the mission,and abide by the values of the College.Education and Experience Requirements: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent inKinesiology with a concentration in Exercise and Sport Psychology or related field with 2 yearsof experience as an Academic Advisor for Athletic Student Retention, ___, or similar duties undera different job title.Specific skills or other requirements: Experience to include 2 years in: academic advisingstudent athletes and developing personalized degree plans; working with NAIA, NCAA orNJCAA regulations and ensuring student athletes meet requirements; working with FERPA andHIPAA laws; and working with first generation at-risk students. Demonstrated ability to teachas shown by a seminar presentation or teaching experience.Hours Per Week: 40 hours per weekAddress of worksite: 627 W.
