The Academic Advisor I provides academic guidance and support to students throughout their educational journey, helping them achieve academic success and timely graduation. This role advises students on degree requirements, course selection, academic policies, registration, and graduation planning while promoting student retention, engagement, and success through proactive communication and individualized support.
Duties and Responsibilities
Advise students on degree requirements, academic policies, and graduation requirements.
Develop personalized academic plans and assist with course selection and registration.
Monitor student academic progress and recommend appropriate coursework.
Counsel students regarding program changes, transfer credits, curriculum waivers, and graduation applications.
Support at-risk students through academic counseling and intervention strategies.
Promote student retention and engagement through proactive outreach.
Serve as a liaison between students and university departments.
Assist students with university systems, registration, and academic resources.
Communicate with students through email, phone, text, virtual meetings, and in-person appointments.
Maintain accurate student records and advising documentation.
Analyze academic records and resolve enrollment-related issues.
Maintain and manage assigned student caseloads.
Prepare reports and meet advising and registration performance goals.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student success.
Promote scholarships, career services, honors programs, and student resources.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree.
1–3 years of related academic advising or student services experience.
Knowledge of academic advising practices and student retention strategies.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Ability to make independent decisions and solve problems effectively.
Experience managing student records and maintaining confidential information.
Proficiency with student information systems, CRM platforms, and Microsoft Office.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain detailed documentation.
Master's degree, Appreciative Advising certification, and experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions or Salesforce are preferred.
