Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Property Accountant to support financial operations within their office property portfolio. This role works closely with property management and finance leadership to ensure accurate reporting, financial analysis, and day-to-day accounting operations. The position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with multiple properties and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly financial statements for property owners, ensuring reports meet specific formatting and submission timelines.
Record and process accounts payable transactions including operating expenses, capital expenditures, commissions, management fees, and tenant improvement costs.
Apply tenant payments and maintain accurate accounts receivable records within the accounting system.
Perform reconciliations related to tenant charges, lease terms, and cash activity as needed.
Monitor outstanding tenant balances, prepare aging reports, and assist with collections efforts including tenant communication regarding past-due accounts.
Support the annual budgeting process for assigned properties and assist with variance analysis and forecasting updates.
Maintain tenant insurance documentation and ensure current certificates are properly tracked and recorded.
Assist with operating expense reconciliations, CPI adjustments, and other annual tenant billing processes.
Contribute to property tax reporting, lender reporting, and audit preparation activities.
Provide financial information and respond to requests from property managers, leadership, and other internal stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within property management, real estate, or a similar environment.
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting processes.
Advanced Excel skills with the ability to build formulas and work with large data sets.
Experience with property management accounting systems such as Yardi is a plus.
Ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and communicate findings clearly.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with vendors, tenants, and internal teams.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Details:
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Work Environment: Fully onsite initially; potential hybrid flexibility after approximately 6 months
Reason for Opening: Backfill due to internal promotions within the team
