DescriptionPositionAccountantStatusFull time, non-exemptReports toDirector of AccountingPosition ObjectiveThe Bright Futures Fund is seeking an Accountant that will support the financial data requirements for schools in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph who are served by the Bright Futures Fund. This is a full-time position based on 40 hours per week.Essential DutiesReview all bank deposit documentation for accuracy and proper codingProcess payrollReview all accounts payable presented for proper codingReview and reconcile tuition contracts and paymentsDevelop schedules for amortization and accruals as neededPrepare and record general ledger journal entriesReconcile and prepare supporting documentation monthly for all balance sheet accountsPrepare monthly financial statements, including commentary, as prescribedWork with staff, Finance Council and/or School Board to prepare and monitor budgets as prescribedMay present financial reports or narratives to finance councils and school boards as neededKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to read, analyze, and interpret financial management reports, technical procedures and government regulationsAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions from school, parish finance councils, Diocesan Education Office and Finance Office ManagementAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentagesEarn trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactionsUse strong verbal and/or written communication skills to exchange information clearly and concisely and deliver concepts, opinions and ideas in a professional mannerTake personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work and achieve results with little oversightTake personal responsibility and act with urgency to meet individual and organizational commitments, including going beyond what the job typically requiresPromote a sense of collaboration and teamwork; share information and learning; keep others informed to help promote Diocesan strategy and goalsBuild constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual respectQualificationsBachelor's degree in accounting of equivalent experienceOne or more years related experience in general ledger, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and cash receiptsWorking knowledge of the Internet, Microsoft Outlook, Word and ExcelWorking knowledge of Sage Intacct preferredFamiliarity with the Catholic understanding of ministry is an assetThe Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph offers a comprehensive benefits program, including medical, dental and vision plans, STD/LTD fully paid by the employer, retirement plans including a 403b plan and a defined benefit pension plan.
