Description

ABH is looking for an Accounting Intern to join our Frederick, MD team this fall. In this paid role, you’ll gain hands-on experience working alongside our finance team by supporting day-to-day accounting operations, assisting with reporting, and applying your classroom knowledge to real organizational tasks and responsibilities. Location: Frederick, MD (In-person) Hours: Part-Time / 20 hours/week Compensation:  $15/hour ABH is a family-centered mental health program that offers a wraparound approach to treatment. We specialize in Psychiatry, Off-Site Counseling Services, On-Site therapy, and Therapeutic Mentoring.   • Assist in the preparation and processing of bi-weekly payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and legal requirements.  
  • Verify and input employee time records, leave balances, and adjustments into the payroll system.  
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes to salary or deductions.  
  • Ensure all payroll data is accurate and up-to-date.  
  • Compile compensation spreadsheets for clinical staff, ensuring accuracy of data imported from EMR.  
  • Research state and federal payroll regulations, tax requirements, and wage-related inquiries as assigned to ensure that ABH practices are in compliance.  
  • Assist in the preparation of payroll tax filings and reports as needed.  
  • Generate and distribute payroll reports for internal stakeholders.  
  • Assist in reconciling payroll accounts and resolving discrepancies.  
  • Responsible for the coordination efforts between payroll, human resources, budget and other departments to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data (including preparation/distribution of detailed reports, e.g. overtime, leave balances, head count, and retirement contribution reports)  
  • Provides customer service to employees, management, and outside vendors/agencies.  
  • Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and escalate complex issues to the Senior Accounting Manager.  
  • Assist with general administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, and data entry.  
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to ongoing projects and process initiatives.  
  • Additional duties within the accounting team as assigned.
Qualifications: 
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university working toward a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. 
  • Strong desire to elevate accounting skills and gain hands-on experience in pursuit of a professional accounting career. 
  • Must have familiarity with general accounting principles (GAAP) and payroll laws and regulations. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks is a plus. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of organization. 
  • Demonstrated integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial and payroll data. 
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment. 
  • Previous internship, coursework, or work experience in accounting or a related field is a plus but not required.
