    Description

    Employment Type: Full-Time

    Location: Aurora, ON

    Salary: $110,000–$125,000

    Industry: Construction

    About the Opportunity

Our client is a design, development, and construction company that has spent more than 20 years building custom homes and master-planned communities. The business is in the middle of maturing its finance function: standing up ERP, formalizing accounting processes, and building the infrastructure a fast-scaling, multi-entity developer needs. This Accounting Manager role is a standalone position reporting directly to the CFO, blending corporate accounting with project accounting across multiple entities and active development sites.

You will own core close activities, strengthen internal controls, and play a lead role in the QuickBooks Online rollout. If you want ownership from day one, direct access to the CFO, and the chance to build (not just maintain) a finance function, this is a rare mandate at this level.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Own month-end close and financial statement preparation across multiple entities
    • Manage project accounting and job costing, ensuring reporting is accurate and decision-useful for active development sites
    • Build and document new-entity/project setup processes, including chart of accounts and job-costing structure, and apply them consistently to new projects
    • Lead intercompany accounting across a growing multi-entity structure
    • Prepare Canadian corporate tax filings and manage GST/HST reporting and new-housing rebate submissions, staying current as rebate thresholds change
    • Oversee payroll processing in partnership with the third-party provider
    • Develop and deliver KPI and variance reporting to support management decision-making
    • Build expense forecasts and pro forma financial models for new development sites
    • Drive the QuickBooks Online implementation and help transition the business off manual, disconnected systems
    • Establish accounting processes and internal controls where none currently exist
    • Partner daily with operations, project management, and banking contacts, and regularly with estimating, legal, and tax advisors

    What You Bring

    • Solid accounting fundamentals with the ability to explain the "why" behind journal entries, not just execute them
    • Experience in construction, home building, or real estate development (residential/home construction preferred)
    • Hands-on experience with GST/HST reporting and Canadian corporate tax preparation
    • Comfort building financial models and expense forecasts for project-based businesses
    • Intermediate Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables)
    • Self-starting and able to work independently in a small, entrepreneurial environment with direct executive access
    • Strong communication skills and a track record of following through without oversight

    Nice to Have

    • QuickBooks Online implementation experience
    • CPA designation
    • Intercompany accounting experience across multiple entities
