Accounting Manager
LHH Recruitment Solutions is looking for an Accounting Manager. This position supports the financial operations of a public-sector organization by assisting leadership with oversight of accounting functions, municipal revenue processes, and departmental staff. The role is a hands-on leadership position responsible for both supervising personnel and actively participating in daily financial operations. The ideal candidate brings a mix of technical accounting knowledge, leadership ability, and strong systems aptitude. This position is permanent placement and will pay between $95K and $130K annually.
Job Duties
- Assist in the oversight and daily operations of finance functions including general ledger, revenue collections, and reporting
- Supervise and support accounting and finance staff, including assigning work, reviewing output, and providing ongoing guidance
- Participate in and oversee municipal or organizational tax collection processes and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Prepare and review financial reports, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Support budget preparation, monitoring, and analysis of revenues and expenditures
- Assist with audits, regulatory reporting, and financial statement preparation
- Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Utilize financial systems and technology to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and support automation initiatives
- Serve as a working supervisor, contributing directly to accounting and finance tasks in addition to leadership responsibilities
- Collaborate with leadership on departmental planning, process improvements, and strategic initiatives
- Provide support with cross-functional financial activities and respond to internal and external inquiries
- Perform additional duties as needed to support departmental operations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a complex or multi-entity environment
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience required
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Experience working with financial systems and strong technical/technology skills
- CPA, CPFO, or similar certification preferred or in progress
- Experience with governmental or public sector accounting is a plus
- Prior experience in public accounting is also a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills and ability to work across teams
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment with competing priorities
- High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential financial information
