Description:

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Houston (UH) invites applications for a part-time, non-tenure track, Adjunct Faculty position to support the Space Architecture Graduate Program, beginning in the 2026 to 2027 academic year.

The positions are affiliated with the Sasakawa International Center for Space Architecture at UH, a nationally and internationally recognized leading center in space architecture education and research. The successful candidates will contribute to the department's space architecture programs through excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and student mentoring.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Teaching graduate-level courses in areas such as space systems, space operations, habitat design, and space mission planning
  • Contributing to project-based instruction and interdisciplinary design studios
  • Supervising student projects within coursework and supporting MS thesis activities
  • Mentoring students and engaging in programmatic and instructional activities

The Department offers graduate programs, including the Master of Science in Space Architecture, the Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering, and a dual degree pathway combining both programs. The department is actively expanding its aerospace and space systems footprint, leveraging its proximity to NASA Johnson Space Center, strong partnerships with the regional aerospace industry, and leading a NASA-funded research center focused on space systems and infrastructure.

The Cullen College of Engineering plays a central role in the university's Carnegie Tier One research mission. The University of Houston is a public metropolitan research university with more than 40,000 students, located in Houston, a global hub for aerospace, energy, and biomedical innovation.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Master of Science or PhD degree in Space Architecture related fields (e.g. Human Factors, Habitability, Human-Machine Interactions), Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field. A PhD is preferred. Candidates with a Master''s Degree and significant, relevant industry or government experience in space architecture, aerospace, space systems, or related areas will also be considered.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with aerospace or space systems design instruction
  • Experience with project-based or studio-based teaching environments
  • Relevant professional or industry experience in space or aerospace sectors

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required.
