The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University''s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Columbia College's Undergraduate Admissions team is seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Adjunct Reader to review and evaluate applications for first-year and transfer admissions to Columbia University's Columbia College. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions, the Adjunct Reader will be instrumental in the holistic evaluation of approximately 400-500 applications from an exceptionally talented pool of prospective students from around the world. Adjunct Readers must be available to work during the months of December through April.

Responsibilities

The Adjunct Reader will serve as a member of the Admissions Committee, helping to inform committee decisions while maintaining the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and fairness. The Adjunct Reader will:

• Participate in all required training sessions and exercises, and periodic team meetings throughout the reading period.
• Review and assess applications, including but not limited to academic records and transcripts, any provided quantitative measures, essays, and recommendations.
• Prepare clear and concise summary evaluations, culminating in a recommendation on behalf of each candidate.
• Present candidates and their recommendations in admissions committee, helping to inform decisions that align with specified admissions criteria.
• Apply admissions criteria consistently and equitably across the applicant pool.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding applicant information and admissions deliberations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor''s degree and/or equivalent related experience required
• 2-3 years' related experience required, including reading and evaluating applications for undergraduate admission
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to synthesize complex, detailed information and make balanced evaluative judgements

Due to conflict of interests, we cannot consider applications of individuals who are:

• Working for another higher education institution, secondary school, or other entity that works closely with students actively applying to college
• Holding concurrent positions in admissions or adjunct/seasonal reader positions at other higher education institutions

This is a seasonal appointment aligned with the undergraduate admissions cycle. Adjunct Readers must be available to work during the months of December through April for an average of 20-25 hours per week.
