Description

The College of Science and Humanities at Husson University invites applications for a part-time laboratory instructor pool. This posting will remain open for up to one year to build a pool of qualified candidates who may be considered for future laboratory teaching opportunities as departmental needs arise.

The College seeks laboratory instructors who are committed to helping students develop scientific knowledge, technical skills, laboratory competency, and safe scientific practices through hands-on learning experiences.

Assignments are expected to be delivered on Husson Universitys Bangor campus.

Example of Duties

Laboratory instructors may be considered to teach and supervise laboratory sections in the following areas:

  • Human Anatomy and Physiology Laboratories
  • General Biology Laboratories
  • Microbiology Laboratories
  • General Chemistry Laboratories
  • Organic Chemistry Laboratories

Laboratory instructors are responsible for facilitating laboratory activities, maintaining a safe learning environment, assisting students with laboratory procedures and scientific inquiry, evaluating student performance, and collaborating with course coordinators and faculty members.

Additional laboratory teaching opportunities may arise within the sciences curriculum. Applicants are encouraged to indicate areas of expertise and laboratory experience.

Qualifications

  • An earned Masters degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, Exercise Science, Health Sciences, or a closely related discipline is required.
  • A PhD or other terminal degree is preferred.
  • Experience teaching or supervising undergraduate laboratory courses is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to laboratory safety and effective science instruction.
  • Ability to communicate scientific concepts and procedures clearly to undergraduate students.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty to support common course objectives and laboratory experiences.

Physical Activities

The essential functions of this position may require the ability to:

  • Move about instructional, laboratory, clinical, office, or campus environments.

  • Occasionally move, transport, or position instructional materials and equipment.

Visual Requirements

Must be able to read, prepare, evaluate, and review a variety of materials in both electronic and printed formats, and observe student activities as necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in instructional, laboratory, clinical, office, or remote learning environments, depending on course assignment and modality. The position may require evening, weekend, or off-site instructional activities.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is based on academic credentials, course assignment and course enrollment.

Undergraduate Courses

  • Masters Prepared: Up to $933.33 per credit hour*
  • Doctoral or Equivalent Prepared: Up to $1,016.67 per credit hour*

Graduate Courses

  • Masters Prepared: Up to $1,016.67 per credit hour*
  • Doctoral or Equivalent Prepared: Up to $1,100.00 per credit hour*

Lab Sections (Undergraduate)

  • Masters Prepared: $1,150.00 per credit hour
  • Doctoral or Equivalent Prepared: $1,250.00 per credit hour
  • Compensation is dependent upon the number of students enrolled in the assigned course.
