Job Summary

An Administrative Assistant Associate position is available in the Su Lab at the University of Michigan. The Su Lab is a newly established laboratory that opened in July 2026 within the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB). The laboratory studies how neural circuits coordinate communication between the brain and peripheral organs in health and disease. The department provides a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with outstanding opportunities for professional development and mentorship.

The Administrative Assistant Associate is expected to provide general administrative and operational support to the research laboratory under direct supervision. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate strong organizational skills and support the day-to-day operations of the laboratory.

We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and responsible individual to assist in launching and managing the laboratory. The successful candidate will play an essential role in supporting laboratory operations, coordinating administrative activities, and helping establish an efficient and collaborative research environment.

Responsibilities*

The Administrative Assistant Associate will work closely with the principal investigator and laboratory members to support the successful launch and operation of a new research program. We seek an individual who will contribute to the following responsibilities in a team-oriented environment:

Laboratory Administration and Operations (80%)

• Coordinate laboratory purchasing and maintain inventory records.
• Communicate with vendors and coordinate equipment purchases, deliveries, and maintenance.
• Organize and maintain laboratory records, files, and administrative documents.
• Coordinate laboratory safety procedures and ensure compliance with university policies and regulations.
• Maintain accurate documentation and support the overall organization of laboratory operations.
• Assist with travel arrangements, reimbursements, and scheduling for laboratory personnel.
• Coordinate meetings and support event planning and logistics.
• Assist with onboarding and orientation for new laboratory members, including

postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate researchers.

Research and Program Support (20%)

• Assist laboratory members and the principal investigator with routine administrative tasks

related to research projects.

• Organize data, prepare reports, and assist with presentations and other materials.
• Facilitate communication among laboratory members and collaborators.
• Participate in training opportunities and support the development of new laboratory

procedures as the lab grows.

Required Qualifications*

• Experience in administration, project coordination, education, operations, or related fields.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
• Adaptability and willingness to take on new responsibilities as the laboratory expands.

Desired Qualifications*

• Bachelor's degree strongly desired; a Master's degree in management, administration, or a related field is preferred.
