Job Overview:

Newark Beth Israel Inpatient Behavioral Health Department: The Advanced Practice Nurse or Clinical Nurse Specialist (APN or CNS) provides an advanced level of nursing care based upon graduate education and broad experience with behavioral health patients and their families. The APN/CNS practices in collaboration with the physicians, nurses and other health care professionals. The APN/CNS practices and conforms to the guidelines set by the NJ Board of Nursing (NJSA 13:37) for the regulation of nurses in advanced practice as Nurse Practitioners/Clinical Nurse Specialists. The APN is responsible for performing duties independently following established and standardized procedures and methods referring questionable situations to physicians. The APN provides behavioral health care through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, clinical judgment and management to restore, maintain and improve the health status of patients.

The PMHNP will round on inpatient units (adult and child/adolescent) as well as review referrals from other hospitals for admission.

Qualifications:

Required:

• A Master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing
• RN license
• APN License
• PMHNP Certification
• CDS and DEA
• CPR certification
• ACLS and BLS
• Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center
• 2+ years of APP experience working in a psychiatric setting, managing mental illness and substance abuse disorders

Preferred:

• Experience with medication assisted treatment (MAT) for substance abuse disorders
• Three to five years of work experience as a professional nurse.
• Experience with comorbid conditions, Mental Illness and Substance Use Disorder medication management.

Scheduling Requirements:

• Per Diem
• 8 hours
• Weekends and holidays

Essential Functions:

• Performs evaluation, treatment, counseling, and educational functions.
• Billing for patient services based on CMS and NJ State Board Regulations.
• Demonstrates satisfactory knowledge and judgment to provide appropriate care for patients.
• Develops plan of care for patients in coordination with multidisciplinary team and completes appropriate reports to primary care physicians and family.
• Documents and maintains patient records of services provided according to facility and nursing standards.
• Establishes a collaborative relationship with other medical providers.
• Interviews, instructs and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
• Issues psychotropic prescriptions to patients based on Federal & State Regulations.
• Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Reviews all lab data and documents.
• Performs and obtains a completed medical history and physical data on patients with appropriate documentation and findings.
• Responsible for coordinating nursing and training programs on compliant for policies such as HIPPA, OSHA, Code of Conduct.
• Responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice.
• Reviews and audits charts routinely.
