Job Description

Join UVA Health as an Advanced Practice Provider in Cellular Therapy and Stem Cell Transplant, where your clinical judgment, procedural growth, and patient-centered practice will directly support a rapidly expanding, highly specialized oncology program.

This is a newly created APP opportunity designed to support the growth of UVA Health's Cellular Therapy and Stem Cell Transplant program across both inpatient and outpatient care. You will help advance a model that brings more transplant care into the ambulatory setting, supports complex inpatient management, and strengthens access for patients receiving advanced therapies such as CAR-T, autologous stem cell transplant, and allogeneic stem cell transplant.

The Role

As an APP on the Cellular Therapy and Stem Cell Transplant team, you will practice in a hybrid inpatient and outpatient model with meaningful autonomy, close collaboration, and exposure to some of the most advanced therapies in hematologic malignancy care. This position is part of an APP-led service, giving the right NP or PA the opportunity to build deep specialty expertise while contributing to a program positioned for significant future growth.

In an average day, you may manage cellular therapy or transplant patients, support infusion-based care, perform procedures, consult on critically ill patients, and collaborate with attending physicians, APPs, nursing, laboratory, apheresis, quality, and research teams.

Key responsibilities and opportunities include:

  • Provide care for patients receiving CAR-T therapy, autologous stem cell transplant, and allogeneic stem cell transplant
  • Oversee cellular therapy infusions and support complex transplant-related care needs
  • Function with significant autonomy within an APP-led service
  • Perform bone marrow biopsies as a procedural resource across the hospital
  • Provide consultative management for Cellular Therapy patients admitted to the MICU/ICU
  • Support inpatient stem cell transplant patient management and care coordination
  • Provide weekend outpatient coverage for ambulatory stem cell transplant patients in the infusion center
  • Collaborate with a deeply experienced multidisciplinary team that includes Stem Cell and Cellular Therapy attending physicians, Hematologic Malignancy attendings, MICU providers, ambulatory APPs, inpatient APPs, research, quality, laboratory, apheresis, and cellular therapy program teams
  • Contribute to a growing care model designed to expand outpatient transplant support while reducing reliance on emergency response resources
  • Practice in a primarily day-shift environment with weekend and holiday rotation expectations

The schedule includes an expectation of approximately three weekends per month, with weekend hours of 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Weekday inpatient shifts are primarily 12-hour shifts, from 0700-1900. The weekend commitment is expected to decrease as the hybrid team expands.

This role is open to both experienced APPs and motivated new graduates who bring strong assessment skills, sound clinical judgment, adaptability, teamwork, and a genuine interest in stem cell transplant and cellular therapy. Specialty experience is welcome, but not required for candidates who are coachable, clinically curious, and invested in developing expertise in this highly specialized patient population.
