Advocacy Coordinator, After-School Programming

Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ), a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York, seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Advocacy Coordinator to support our After-School Programs.

The Advocacy Coordinator will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty through comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that creates opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

We are currently seeking an Advocacy Coordinator to provide oversight of academic enrichment, student support, and advocacy initiatives across HCZ's After-School Programs. The Advocacy Coordinator will ensure program participants receive the mentorship, academic support, social-emotional support, career readiness programming, college preparation, life skills development, and multicultural experiences needed to prepare them for success in college, careers, and life. This role will collaborate across multiple program sites to promote consistency, quality, and positive outcomes for youth and families.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Youth Development, or a related field preferred 
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant professional experience will be considered
• 2+ years of experience supporting youth, families, and communities in an educational, youth development, case management, nonprofit, or related setting 
• Experience developing and implementing support plans, interventions, or services that promote positive youth outcomes 
• Experience building relationships with families, schools, community partners, and other stakeholders 
• Experience supervising, coaching, or leading staff, interns, volunteers, or program participants preferred 
• Experience utilizing data, documentation systems, or case management tools to monitor participant progress and inform decision-making preferred

What You'll Do

• Build meaningful relationships with students and families to support academic achievement, social-emotional development, and overall well-being 
• Assess student needs and develop individualized support plans that promote academic success, college readiness, career exploration, and personal growth
• Utilize participant data and program outcomes to identify needs, monitor progress, and inform intervention strategies.
• Supervise Student Advocates, tutors, and support staff to ensure high-quality service delivery and positive participant outcomes 
• Partner with families, schools, and community organizations to coordinate services and address barriers to student success 
• Monitor participant progress and utilize data to identify trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and inform intervention strategies 
• Coordinate and support educational services, academic enrichment activities, and student advocacy efforts 
• Collaborate with program leadership to strengthen program quality, participant engagement, and continuous improvement efforts 
• Facilitate case management meetings and maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation 
• Support the implementation of leadership development, college readiness, career readiness, and life-skills programming 
• Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule 

• This role requires an 8-hour shift Monday through Friday, scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Final hours will be based on program assignment and operational needs of the after-school site/program.
• Summer Schedule: To support summer camp operations, employees work an 8-hour shift within a schedule that may range from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Summer hours are determined by the site and program assignment you support during the school year.
