    Description

THIS ROLE IS IN-OFFICE (NOT REMOTE), MON-FRI, BASED IN IRVING, TX.

Applicants who reside outside of the Dallas/Fort Worth area will not be considered.

This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored work authorization. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

This is a first-of-its-kind role at Austco. You'll lead AI adoption across our entire R&D function — embedding practical AI into engineering, software development, and verification and validation workflows. This is not a research role. We need someone who can act, build, and lead.

    ABOUT AUSTCO

Austco Healthcare (ASX: AHC) is a globally distributed provider of clinical communication and workflow solutions, serving hospitals, nursing homes, and aged-care facilities across more than 50 countries. As we enter a new phase of growth, we're investing in AI-enabled engineering to accelerate development capability and product innovation.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    AI tooling and integration

    • Evaluate, implement, and champion AI-assisted tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, LLM-based assistants) across the engineering team

    • Build internal tools and workflows using LLMs to accelerate development, code review, documentation, and testing

    • Pilot AI use cases in V&V and QA processes — automated test generation, requirements traceability, and defect analysis

    R&D AI leadership

    • Serve as the primary AI subject matter expert within R&D

    • Design and deliver internal training programs to lift AI capability across the engineering team

    • Partner with the Head of R&D and CTO to define the AI adoption roadmap

    • Champion responsible, auditable AI practices and contribute to internal usage guidelines

    • Stay across emerging regulatory guidance on AI in medical devices

    Regulated software environment

    • Ensure AI-assisted processes comply with IEC 62304 and applicable quality management requirements

    • Work with the quality and regulatory team to document AI tool usage within the SDLC for regulatory submissions

    Collaboration and innovation

    • Identify cross-disciplinary AI applications with hardware and firmware engineers

    • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the R&D team

    WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

    Essential REQUIRED

    • Strong software engineering background such as, Python essential, plus C++, C#, or JavaScript

    • Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) into real production workflows — not just prototypes

    • Practical experience with AI-assisted developer tooling; able to evaluate and implement new tools rapidly

    • Track record of coaching and up-skilling technical peers and able to train other team members

    • Strong written and verbal communication, including documentation for both engineering and regulatory audiences

    Highly Desirable

    • Familiarity with regulated software environments such as, IEC 62304, IEC 62443, UL 1069, or equivalent

    • Experience in medical devices, healthcare technology, or other safety-critical industries

    • Exposure to automated testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices

    • Experience building AI-assisted tools for V&V, requirements management, or software QA

    • Relevant tertiary qualification in software engineering, computer science, or related discipline

    WHAT WE OFFER

    • High impact from day one. You will shape the AI strategy of a global ASX-listed healthcare technology company

    • Competitive compensation and healthcare benefits package, including 401k with a 3% company match

    • Collaborative team with deep domain expertise and access to the latest AI tools and platforms

    • Ongoing professional development support

If you're a software engineer who's passionate about AI adoption and wants to LEAD a meaningful transition in a regulated, mission-driven industry, we'd love to hear from you.
