POSITION SUMMARY

Assist in the implementation of student Individual Education Programs and in the delivery of the school's instructional program. This position will support students with Intelluctual Disabilities.

Please note: Special Ed positions will involve meeting the individual needs of specific students and in most cases will involve the physical and hygienic needs of these students. Positions will require a Physical with a Lift and Carry and require appropriate DPI license paid by the employee of $100.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervise while providing opportunities, information and instruction to students individually, in small groups, or in large groups by implementing specific behavioral and educational plans by supplementing, adapting instruction and applying specific behavioral management systems

  2. Assist students with personal care tasks, including but not limited to, tube-feeding, lavatory, clothing, hygiene, diapering, toileting and wash-up routines

  3. Demonstrate, monitor and encourage positive student behaviors and enforce school rules by portraying a tough but nurturing poise

  4. Handle intense behavioral situations professionally (i.e. safely clear a classroom, while keeping all students safe, using non-violent strategies when necessary and strong use of non-verbal de-escalation, not to be intimated by students)

  5. Prepare, maintain, repair and display instructional materials including word processing, filing, distribution, collection, use of office equipment and other activities

  6. Transition students safely from class to class as needed

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Attend IEP meetings regarding student progress or program implementation as required

  2. Grade assignments and maintain various records and files.

  3. Maintain cleanliness and safety of student environment.

  4. Administer and document medication and medical or psychological treatment, service or therapy as directed by professional staff.

  5. Communicate with parents as appropriate.

  6. Assume duties of other staff members on an occasional or temporary basis.

  7. Perform other duties as assigned which are fairly within the scope of duties normally performed by school aides.
