    Job Description:

    Position Summary

    The Maintenance Generalist I provides essential maintenance support to the UF/IFAS Mid-Florida Research & Education Center by performing a variety of routine maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties to ensure facilities, greenhouses, and research spaces remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. This position supports the Center's research and extension mission by maintaining buildings, equipment, and greenhouse infrastructure while responding to routine maintenance needs.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, facilities, and equipment, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting tasks within the scope of the position.
    • Conduct preventative maintenance on facility systems and equipment, including replacing HVAC filters, inspecting building components, lubricating equipment, and reporting deficiencies requiring specialized repairs.
    • Perform routine inspections of buildings, greenhouses, and surrounding facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, or operational issues.
    • Assist with greenhouse maintenance by performing preventative maintenance on cooling pads, exhaust fans, vents, irrigation components, shade systems, and environmental control equipment to help maintain proper operating conditions.
    • Support the maintenance and repair of research infrastructure, including benches, workspaces, irrigation systems, fencing, walkways, and other facility assets.
    • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and light maintenance equipment in a safe and effective manner.
    • Perform routine groundskeeping activities, including mowing, trimming, edging, pressure washing, debris removal, and maintaining clean, safe, and accessible work areas around buildings and greenhouses.
    • Respond to maintenance work orders in a timely manner and communicate identified repair needs or safety concerns to supervisors.
    • Maintain maintenance records, complete assigned work orders, and document completed preventative maintenance activities.
    • Follow University of Florida safety policies and procedures, utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a safe work environment.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the Mid-Florida Research & Education Center.
    Expected Salary:

    $16 - $18/hr.

    Licenses/Certifications:

    Must maintain a valid FL Driver's License

    Preferred:
    • One (1) year or more of experience performing general building, facilities, or maintenance work.
    • Experience with preventative maintenance and minor repairs involving plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, or HVAC systems.
    • Experience maintaining greenhouse facilities, environmental control systems, irrigation systems, or agricultural/research support facilities.
    • Knowledge of the safe operation and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, and light maintenance equipment.
    • Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues, identify repair needs, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
    • Experience utilizing computerized work order or maintenance management systems.
