SUMMARY
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently seeking adjunct faculty to teach music courses at any KCKCC location. They will primarily teach Applied Voice Lessons with an opportunity to teach other music courses as qualified. This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position are accepted on an ongoing basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Hold all class sessions according to schedule.
  • Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to meet the Music Department Student Learning Outcomes for the specific course(s) taught.
  • Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher-order thinking skills.
  • Organize and explain content using methods that are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences.
  • Assign and provide feedback for in- and out-of-class work, monitor student progress.
  • Perform adequate assessment and analysis of assessment according to college requirements.
  • Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's own pedagogy.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the appropriate supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Possess advanced skills/knowledge in the following subjects: Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, Basic Piano Skills, Diction, Music Theory, and Music History
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to and ability to work with students and faculty.
  • High-energy self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of employees in the organization.
  • Detail-oriented
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s or higher degree in music, Music Education, or closely related field.
  • Two (2) years’ experience teaching voice.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated ability to accompany both student instrumental and vocal ensembles as well as soloists.
  • Experience with jazz, musical theatre, or other styles of American Popular Music.

WORK SCHEDULE
Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
