    Job Description

    We are seeking energetic, outgoing team players to provide expert fitness instruction and personal attention to members in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment.  Our awesome fitness staff works with a diverse population every day to promote health and wellness and support the fitness goals of all our members.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Policies and Mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. The Water Fitness Instructor will conduct safe and engaging water fitness programs to groups and individuals.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Provide highly engaging water fitness instruction to members in group workouts or individual settings.
    2. Assists in water fitness program design and safety training.
    3. Engage by greeting members and providing high-quality member service.
    4. Maintain high standards of communication with supervisor, members, staff and volunteers.
    5. Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of all facility and equipment in the pool area.
    6. Responsible for recording information as needed.
    7. Respond to emergencies as needed.
    8. Maintain Standards of Conduct as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
    9. Attend all department staff meetings and trainings specified by supervisor.
    10. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Physically perform all skills required of an Aqua Fitness Instructor. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
    • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise aqua activities
    • Must occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
    • Visual ability to clearly monitor activities in both indoor and outdoor settings
    • Mobility to quickly respond to emergencies
    • Ability to project, communicate and queue effectively

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, such as Red Cross and American Heart Association
    • Ability to teach and design programs using free weights, variable resistance, flexibility exercise and cardiovascular equipment
    • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications must be accomplished within 60 days of hire
    • Ability to relate effectively to diverse people from all social and economic segments of the community
    • At least 18 years of age
