Archaeology Field Technician

Location: Paducah, Kentucky
Position Type: Temporary / Project-Based
Openings: Three Field Technicians
Payrate: $20-27/hr

We are seeking three Archaeology Field Technicians to support a two-phase archaeological field project in Paducah, Kentucky. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors in variable weather and performing physically demanding fieldwork under the direction of a field supervisor.

Project Schedule

Phase 1: November 2–13, 2026

• Mobilization: November 2

• Demobilization: November 13

• The weekend between mobilization and demobilization will be off.

Phase 2: Tentatively November 30–December 18, 2026

• Mobilization: November 30

• Demobilization: December 18

• This three-week phase is scheduled after Thanksgiving and is weather permitting.

Per Diem

• Field days: $68 per day

• Travel days: $51 per day, equivalent to 75% of the daily rate

Responsibilities

• Assist with archaeological survey, shovel testing, excavation, and other field tasks as assigned.

• Identify, recover, and document cultural materials using established project procedures.

• Maintain accurate field notes, excavation records, and artifact documentation.

• Use maps, GPS equipment, and standard archaeological field tools.

• Follow project safety requirements and directions from field leadership.

• Work collaboratively to meet project goals and maintain quality field documentation.

Qualifications

• Previous archaeological field experience or completion of an archaeological field school preferred.

• Familiarity with archaeological survey methods, soil documentation, and artifact identification.

• Ability to walk across uneven terrain, perform repetitive digging, and carry field equipment.

• Ability to work outdoors in changing temperatures and weather conditions.

• Strong attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork.
