The Architecture team at GBA is looking for a highly motivated, goal oriented individual, who is interested in learning new skills, to join us in our Lenexa, Kansas headquarters office. This individual will have the opportunity to work in a collaborative team environment while working on new and/or renovation projects from start to finish, seeing every phase of the project. Projects include providing design, construction documents, and construction administration on a variety of building types involving corporate office, pharmaceutical – clean rooms, R&D/QA labs, fleet maintenance, industrial and manufacturing spaces.

Scope of Responsibility:

The Architect I is responsible for performing foundational architectural tasks under close supervision. This role undertakes a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard architectural techniques for small projects or selected segments of a larger project. This role performs design layouts and features, which require researching, compiling, and recording information for assigned project work. Additionally, this role assists project teams with producing construction documents and conducting site visits to verify existing conditions. They may assist with renderings, material and equipment research, and reviewing shop drawings and close-out documentation.

What You'll Do:

• Prepare architectural drawings, layouts, and details for small projects or defined portions of larger projects using established standards and firm templates.
• Research, compile, and document building codes, zoning requirements, materials, and product data relevant to assigned project tasks.
• Assist in the production and coordination of construction documents, including plans, sections, schedules, and basic details.
• Conduct field verification and site visits to document existing conditions through measurements, photographs, and written reports.
• Support schematic design and design development efforts by producing diagrams, basic 3D models, and presentation graphics.
• Assist with the review and organization of shop drawings, submittals, and close-out documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture from NAAB accredited program AND 0+ years of relevant experience.
• Participation in NCARB Architectural Experience Program preferred.
• Basic understanding of AutoCAD and Revit.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a discipline team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

• Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Travel:

• Ability to travel as needed based on job level and expertise for project site & field visits, conferences, training, and professional outings.
• Occasional day trips or overnight travel may be required, including other GBA offices.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record under the company’s insurance carrier requirements to operate or rent vehicles for business purposes.
