Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for an Architectural Technician in Planning, Design and Construction. The primary purpose of the Architectural Technician is to support the University Architect and Office of Planning, Design, and Construction while working closely with the Physical Plant and other campus divisions.

Duties and Responsibilities

30% Space Planning and Utilization: Performs space utilization assessments consistent with Kansas Board of Regents methodology and criteria. Coordinates with maintenance staff, and others as necessary to schedule and complete assessments in an efficient and timely manner.

20% Data Management/Reporting: Prepares or assists in preparing reports to the Kansas Board of Regents, PSU administrators and other stakeholders as requested. Confers with supervisor and others as appropriate in assigning priorities, requesting work, and issuing reports.

30% Maintains project and drawing files for existing facilities, assists in designing small modifications or renovations, documents completed projects, and retrieves historical hard copy or digital documents for use by the office, consultants, and others on campus.

10% Interior Finishes: Prepares preliminary cost estimates for addressing identified facility deficiencies. Uses RS Means cost data or other acceptable sources. Confers with supervisor and others as necessary for consistency, evaluating options, and other considerations.

10% Other Duties as Assigned: Attends meetings, provides training/outreach, assists in campus/project planning, serves as project manager or project support staff, assists in emergency planning/response, and performs other tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience

Required Education and Experience - Time of Hire

  • Associates Degree in Architectural Technology, Interior Design, CAD, similar degree, technical certificate or two years of full-time work experience.

  • Strong foundation of technical architectural, design, or construction knowledge.

  • Knowledge of U.S. building codes, office procedures, and filing standards.

Preferred Education and Experience -

  • B.S. degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or closely related field

  • Two years of work experience at an institution of higher learning

  • Two years of professional experience in a firm or as a sole proprietor

Appointment Duration: 12 months

Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Salary: $53,000 annually
