Job Summary:
The Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Clinical Director is responsible for the overall operations, administration, and business performance of the surgery center. This role provides leadership in strategic planning, regulatory readiness, compliance, financial performance, and operational efficiency. The ASC Clinical Director ensures that the ASC delivers safe, high-quality, cost-effective surgical services while fostering strong relationships with physicians, staff, and community stakeholders. The ASC Clinical Director oversees the business and operational aspects of the center and ensures adherence to all state, federal, and accreditation standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership & Operations
• Provide strategic leadership for ASC operations, aligning goals with organizational mission and market needs.
• Direct day-to-day administrative, financial, and operational activities across departments.
• Develop and implement operational strategies to ensure efficiency, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance.
• Partner with the Governing Board, Medical Director, and physicians to plan, develop, and expand programs and services.
• Lead performance improvement initiatives to drive quality, safety, and patient satisfaction.
• Ensure effective recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of non-clinical staff. Regulatory & Compliance
• Maintain full compliance with all applicable regulations (CMS, CDPH, AAAHC, Joint Commission, OSHA, HIPAA).
• Monitor and update policies and procedures to align with current laws and accreditation requirements.
• Coordinate surveys, audits, and inspections; lead corrective action planning and execution.
• Oversee risk management, patient safety initiatives, and corporate compliance adherence. Financial & Business Management
• Develop, implement, and manage operating and capital budgets. • Monitor revenue cycle performance, billing, collections, and accounts payable/receivable to maximize financial results.
• Oversee supply chain, purchasing, contracts, and vendor relationships.
• Conduct financial analysis, identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth, and prepare reports for the Governing Board.
Essential Function:-
Strategic Development
• Monitor market trends, assess business opportunities, and recommend strategies for growth and service line development.
• Lead ASC initiatives for new technologies, programs, and physician recruitment in collaboration with organizational leadership.
• Establish productivity benchmarks and ensure attainment of performance targets. Communication & Relationships
• Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with surgeons, anesthesiologists, hospital leaders, and community partners.
• Serve as the primary liaison between the ASC, physicians, governing body, and regulatory agencies.
• Promote an organizational culture of teamwork, accountability, integrity, and service excellence.
Education and Experience:-
Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience in healthcare operations; ambulatory surgery or outpatient services
Registered Nurse in State of California
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Prefer - Bachelors in Healthcare Administration, Business or related field
Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory, compliance, and accreditation requirements for ambulatory surgery centers.
Strong financial management skills including budgeting, revenue cycle, and contract management.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to manage teams, build physician alignment, and lead through change.
• Supervise and manage clinical staff and daily operations of the surgery center.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards. • Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures.
• Provide direct patient care and administer medications as needed. • Coordinate patient care plans and ensure patient safety and satisfaction. • Oversee inventory management and procurement of medical supplies. • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
