Position Overview
PROLIM is seeking an experienced Assembler 2 / Electronics Assembler to support Northrop Grumman's aerospace and defence operations in Buffalo, New York.
The selected candidate will perform precision electronic, electromechanical, and cable assembly work supporting advanced aerospace and defence simulation systems. This position requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, soldering skills, and the ability to work from engineering drawings, assembly instructions, diagrams, and other technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble electronic components using assembly drawings, diagrams, work instructions, and job aids.
- Perform precision assembly and manufacturing processes based on business and production requirements.
- Perform fine-pitch soldering of circuit card assemblies.
- Perform BGA rework and repair of circuit cards when required.
- Perform manual and automated assembly of microelectronic components.
- Perform electromechanical assembly.
- Fabricate and install semi-rigid wire and cable harnesses.
- Perform transformer winding and encapsulation as required.
- Perform continuity checks on in-process and completed assemblies.
- Safely operate production equipment, including:
- Soldering stations
- Crimping tools
- Microscopes
- Ovens
- Other electronic assembly equipment
- Inspect completed work for workmanship and compliance with released build documentation.
- Identify, document, and assist in resolving nonconformances.
- Perform rework and repair activities as required.
- Accurately record production information in travellers, shop-floor systems, and quality records.
- Work with technicians, engineers, and supervisors to clarify assembly instructions and improve processes.
- Follow all ESD, FOD, safety, cleanliness, and quality procedures.
- Successfully complete required in-house workmanship and assembly training.
Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of electronic assembly or manufacturing/assembly experience, OR an associate degree in electronics or a related technical discipline.
- Hands-on soldering experience.
- Experience performing manufacturing or assembly tasks in a metric-based production environment.
- Ability to read and follow assembly drawings, diagrams, and written instructions.
- Ability to move objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
- Basic computer skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or previous IPC-A-610 and/or IPC J-STD-001 certification.
- Ability to solder at a Class 2 level.
- Experience working under a microscope on small electronic assemblies.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and precision.
- Experience with BGA rework and repair.
- Experience with circuit card assembly and rework.
- Experience with wire and cable harness fabrication.
- Experience with electromechanical assembly.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to identify and resolve assembly issues.
- Experience working in a quality- and productivity-driven manufacturing environment.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with electronics assembly, soldering, circuit card assembly, wire harnesses, electromechanical assembly, and precision workmanship. Candidates who have worked with microscopes, BGA rework, IPC standards, or aerospace/defence hardware are especially encouraged to apply.
