Assistant Asian Foods Buyer:
Support the growth of a dynamic Asian foods department in a hands-on buying and retail operations role. This Assistant Asian Foods Buyer position is ideal for a detail-oriented grocery professional who enjoys product discovery, purchase-order writing, inventory management, vendor communication, merchandising, and working directly on the sales floor.
In this role, you will partner closely with the department buyer to help maintain an exciting, well-stocked assortment of Asian grocery products. You will assist with ordering, replenishment, product rotation, vendor coordination, inventory accuracy, and customer service while gaining valuable experience in grocery purchasing and category management.
Support the department buyer with daily purchasing, order writing, product replenishment, and inventory-management activities
Create and submit purchase orders for assigned Asian food products, ensuring accurate quantities, pricing, delivery schedules, and product details
Monitor product movement, on-hand inventory, out-of-stocks, backstock, and shelf conditions to maintain strong in-stock levels
Work regularly on the sales floor to support merchandising, customer service, product rotation, shelf recovery, and department presentation
Assist with receiving, checking, organizing, storing, and rotating grocery products according to freshness, quality, and food-safety standards
Review sales trends, inventory reports, seasonal demand, and customer feedback to identify ordering needs and product opportunities
Help maintain a diverse, customer-focused assortment of Asian grocery items, including pantry staples, sauces, noodles, snacks, beverages, frozen foods, and specialty products
Communicate with vendors and sales representatives regarding availability, pricing, order status, product substitutions, freight, promotions, and new-item opportunities
Support product research, new-item setup, vendor samples, and category updates
Help identify slow-moving, discontinued, damaged, or excess inventory and recommend actions to improve turnover and reduce shrink
Assist with promotional planning, display execution, signage, and seasonal merchandising initiatives
Maintain accurate product, purchase-order, vendor, and pricing records
Partner with merchandising, receiving, operations, and department teams to ensure products move efficiently from delivery to shelf
Engage with customers, answer product questions, and provide a helpful, welcoming shopping experience
Support additional buying, salesfloor, and department responsibilities as business needs require
Assistant Asian Foods Buyer Profile:
Prior grocery, retail, food purchasing, merchandising, receiving, inventory, or specialty-food experience preferred
Interest in Asian foods, international grocery products, and evolving food trends
Experience with purchase orders, ordering systems, inventory systems, or replenishment processes is a plus
Strong attention to detail, especially when reviewing product information, pricing, quantities, invoices, and order accuracy
Ability to analyze sales activity, inventory levels, and product performance to support informed buying decisions
Strong organization, prioritization, and follow-through in a fast-paced environment
Clear and professional communication skills for working with vendors, customers, and internal teams
Basic computer, Excel, math, data-entry, and recordkeeping skills
Familiarity with purchasing software, inventory-management systems, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, or Power BI is a plus
Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a buyer and department leadership team
