Description of Position

This is a Casual Part-Time position servicing the Athletic Department during the traditional academic year. The position of Assistant Athletic Trainer is an at-will position. As an at-will employee, Yavapai College may terminate employment at any time and for any lawful reason.

The Assistant Athletic trainer will report to the Head Athletic Trainer and maintain records and reports, injury records, physical notes, treatment logs, drug testing, etc. In addition, they will assist the Head Athletic Trainer in injury recognition, treatment, rehabilitation, and conditioning of student-athletes while maintaining and monitoring athletic training rooms, games and practices, and inventory of supplies.

This position requires frequent communication and interaction with all YC coaches, YC athletes, Head Athletic Trainer, Athletic administrators, and the team physician.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with evaluation of injuries
  • Assist with treatment and rehabilitation of injuries
  • Provide information to athletes for the prevention of injuries
  • Assist with documentation of injury evaluation/treatment
  • Monitor equipment and facility maintenance
  • Travel as needed with intercollegiate teams
  • Support with logistics, promotion, and hosting fundraising initiatives on behalf of the department, including attending and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders
  • Assist with coordination and operation of camps that contribute to raising funds for the athletic program every year
  • Participates in activities that contribute to the overall understanding of the athletic program and department
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from a nationally accredited program in sports medicine, kinesiology, or closely related field
  • Certification by NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers' Association)
  • State licensed Health Care Professional (Athletic Trainer)

Experience:

  • Experience working in an intercollegiate athletic program
  • Work experience in a higher education or college environment

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Current CPR certification
  • Certification by NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers' Association)
  • State licensed Health Care Professional (Athletic Trainer)
  • Knowledge of physical conditioning, rehabilitation, and modality techniques
  • Knowledge of athletic recruitment processes and college athletic programs
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Preferred Skills & Abilities

Education:

  • Masters degree from an accredited institution in related field

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Familiarity with NJCAA rules and regulations
