Description
Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing organization in the Newark area, for an entry-level Assistant Bookkeeper to join their finance team. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their accounting career to build a strong foundation in day-to-day financial operations while working alongside experienced bookkeeping and accounting professionals.
The day-to-day of this role centers on accuracy, organization, and consistency, from entering invoices and reconciling accounts to helping prepare reports for the finance team. People who thrive in this position enjoy detail-oriented work, are comfortable learning new systems and processes, and take pride in keeping financial records clean and up to date. It is an ideal starting point for someone looking to grow into a full bookkeeping or accounting career.
Responsibilities
Enter and code accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
Assist with monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
Maintain accurate and organized financial records and filing systems
Support processing of invoices, payments, and deposits
Help prepare basic financial reports under supervision
Assist with payroll data entry and timesheet tracking
Respond to routine vendor and client billing inquiries
Maintain the general ledger by posting approved journal entries
Support month-end close tasks alongside senior bookkeeping staff
Perform other administrative and clerical accounting duties as needed
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in accounting or related field preferred
Basic understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial terminology
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer skills
Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar accounting software a plus
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
Good organizational and time management skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Willingness to learn and take direction from senior team members
