Description

I'm currently partnered with a well-known construction company in downtown Chicago that continues to scale and experience strong growth. As a result of that growth, they're looking to add an Assistant Controller to the team.

This person will serve as the VP of Finance's right-hand person and will take ownership of a significant portion of the company's day-to-day accounting operations. They're looking for someone who is hands-on, proactive, and eager to take on additional responsibility as the organization continues to grow.

Client Details

Description

Assistant Controller Responsibilites:

  • Manage the monthly close, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting
  • Oversee project accounting, including job costing, WIP, billing, and revenue recognition
  • Partner with project and operations teams to review job cost activity, analyze project financial performance, identify potential risks, and ensure accurate reporting throughout the life of each project
  • Support payroll, including union payroll and related reporting
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting and working capital management, while monitoring A/R, aging balances, collections, and overall cash position
  • Support year-end close activities, tax preparation, financial statement reviews, and coordination with external accounting partners and advisors
  • Maintain internal controls and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes
  • Work closely with the VP of Finance and broader leadership team on ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and special projects as the company continues to grow

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field strongly preferred
  • Prior experience within the construction industry, with experience at either a general contractor or subcontractor
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting, including job costing, WIP, billing, and project financials
  • Experience owning or playing a significant role in the month-end close process
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across accounting, operations, and leadership
  • Team-oriented, collaborative personality with a hands-on approach
  • Previous management, leadership, or mentoring experience preferred
