Job Details
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for supporting the monthly close, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and accounting processes across the organization. This is a hands-on position that will work closely with the Controller and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting fundamentals, enjoys improving processes, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced distribution or inventory-driven environment.
Responsibilities
Assist the Controller with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
Oversee and review general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reporting.
Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and other accounting functions as needed.
Assist with inventory accounting, cost accounting, and reconciliation of inventory-related accounts.
Monitor and maintain appropriate accounting controls and procedures.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
Support external audits, tax filings, and other financial compliance requirements.
Research and apply GAAP accounting principles to complex transactions.
Partner with operations, purchasing, sales, and other departments to resolve accounting issues and improve financial processes.
Assist with special projects, system enhancements, and other initiatives as assigned by the Controller.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Prior experience in an Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, or similar role.
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger accounting.
Experience with inventory and/or cost accounting strongly preferred.
Distribution, food & beverage, manufacturing, retail, or other inventory-based industry experience is a plus.
Strong Excel skills and experience working with an ERP/accounting system.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams.
