Description

The Boulder County Attorney's Office is hiring two attorneys. The attorneys will be classified depending on experience as an Assistant County Attorney I,II, or III. The duties assigned to these positions are interchangeable depending on the experience and preferences of the selected candidates and needs of the office. We anticipate that the legal practice areas of the positions will be as follows:

Position 1:

  • Clerk and Recorder/Elections
  • Office of Financial Management advice on local government fiscal laws
  • Department of Housing advice relating to housing stabilization programs and resident service programs, including complex contracts and partnerships
  • Department of Human Services operations advice relating to state and federal frameworks and complex contracts and partnerships

Position 2:

  • Boulder County Housing Authority operations-including landlord/tenant law
  • Property tax assessment, including hearings before the State Board of Assessment Appeals
  • Building and land use zoning code enforcement
  • Colorado Open Records Act (CORA)

The duties of the positions may change over time to reflect the needs of the office as a whole and the interests of the attorney hired.

The County Attorney's Office has experienced attorneys who will be part of the onboarding and ongoing support system for the attorney hired into these positions.

Hiring Salary Range for Assistant County Attorney I: $94,320 -- $115,062

Classification Salary Range for Assistant County Attorney I: $94,320 -- $135,804

Hiring Salary Range for Assistant County Attorney II: $114,672 -- $139,884

Classification Salary Range for Assistant County Attorney II: $114,672 -- $165,096

Hiring Salary Range for Assistant County Attorney III: $126,372 -- $154,224

Classification Salary Range for Assistant County Attorney III: $126,372 -- $182,076

Preferred experience (not required, but a plus - we will train!)

  • Experience with land use law or code enforcement
  • Experience with property tax assessment law, including appeal hearings
  • Experience with housing or landlord/tenant law
  • Experience with administrative law hearings and appeals
  • Experience with advising local governments or local government departments on a variety of complex legal issues, including statutory authority, finance and budget, state regulations, open records, and risk analysis
  • Experience with affordable housing development or operations
  • Experience in human services, such as dependency and neglect, child support, mental health, or adult protection

POSITION DETAILS

Both positions are full-time and benefited positions. The work schedule is Monday - Friday and work hours are determined by need but generally fall between 7:30am - 5:30pm. The office location is in the Historic Courthouse on the Pearl Street Mall, 1325 Pearl Street, Boulder, CO 80302. These positions are hybrid positions with the option of working from home up to three days per week, as work duties allow. Both positions require in-court presence at hearings and at trial and attending in-person meetings and hearings at other Boulder County locations as necessary. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is exempt (not eligible for overtime).

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

An Assistant County Attorney I position requires a JD degree and a license to practice law in Colorado.

In addition to the requirements of an Assistant County Attorney I, the Assistant County Attorney II position requires a minimum of two years of experience as a practicing attorney. The Assistant County Attorney III position requires a minimum of five years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Prior law clerk experience or additional related education may count toward minimum experience requirements.

Vacation and Medical leave are based off of full time FTE accruals. Part-time FTE/term employees accrue leave based on the percentage of time they work.
