Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Assistant Director - Revenue Optimization and Process Improvement.

In this role, the successful candidate as the Assistant Director of Revenue Optimization and Process Improvement is responsible for leading strategic initiatives designed to improve revenue cycle performance, operational efficiency, and financial outcomes across NYU Langone Health. The role partners with Revenue Cycle leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities, translate data and operational findings into actionable strategies, and lead initiatives from assessment through implementation and ongoing performance monitoring.
The Assistant Director will have significant responsibility for process improvement, project management, and analytics, with a focus on identifying and addressing root causes of revenue leakage, denials, workflow inefficiencies, and other barriers to optimal revenue cycle performance. The role will leverage data and operational expertise to quantify opportunities, develop sustainable solutions, establish performance measures, and evaluate the financial and operational impact of implemented changes.
The Assistant Director will work across Revenue Cycle functions and collaborate with clinical, operational, financial, technology, Coding/CDI, payer, and other stakeholders to develop scalable solutions that improve revenue capture, prevent avoidable denials, strengthen upstream processes, and support continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of revenue optimization and process improvement initiatives from opportunity identification through implementation, stabilization, and measurement of results. Establish priorities based on financial and operational impact, level of effort, organizational priorities, dependencies, and implementation readiness, and establish appropriate project plans and governance structures, including scope, milestones, ownership, risks, decision points, escalation pathways, and success measures.
  • Identify and prioritize revenue improvement opportunities through analysis of revenue cycle performance, including denial trends, coding and documentation opportunities, reimbursement variances, workflow inefficiencies, billing outcomes, accounts receivable trends, and other financial and operational indicators.
  • Translate complex financial and operational data into actionable strategies and executive-level business cases, quantifying financial and operational impact and clearly articulating opportunities, recommended solutions, resource requirements, risks, and expected outcomes.
  • Lead structured root-cause analysis and development of preventive solutions for recurring revenue cycle issues, partnering with operational and technical stakeholders to distinguish downstream symptoms from underlying process, system, documentation, coding, payer, or workflow drivers and implement upstream interventions that reduce recurrence, correction, and rework.
  • Facilitate cross-functional workgroups and serve as a central point of coordination among Revenue Cycle Operations, Analytics, Coding/CDI, Denial Prevention, Revenue Opportunity, Information Technology/Epic, clinical departments, Finance, Managed Care, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Oversee Analytics in the development of performance reporting, dashboards, opportunity analyses, and analytical tools that enable leadership to identify emerging trends, quantify and prioritize opportunities, and proactively identify revenue cycle risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Establish performance baselines, measurable targets, and success criteria for improvement initiatives and evaluate post-implementation results, including validation of realized financial benefit, operational improvement, denial reduction, increased revenue capture, improved reimbursement, and other defined outcomes.
  • Lead workflow redesign and optimization efforts across departments, sites, and functions to reduce unnecessary variation, manual intervention, rework, and operational inefficiency, partnering with operational and technical teams to define business requirements, design workflows and system enhancements, coordinate testing and implementation, and validate results.
  • Establish sustainable processes and operational controls for implemented improvements, including standardized workflows and procedures, defined ownership and accountability, exception management, escalation protocols, and corrective-action processes to ensure improvements are sustained and recurring issues are identified and addressed timely.
  • Provide leadership with ongoing visibility into the revenue optimization portfolio, including initiative status, financial opportunity, realized financial and operational impact, key milestones, dependencies, risks, decisions required, and next steps.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and project outcomes to senior leadership, translating detailed analytical and operational information into concise, decision-oriented communications.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by applying structured problem-solving and process-improvement methodologies and helping teams move from reactive issue resolution toward proactive prevention.
  • Provide leadership and direction to assigned staff, supporting professional development, accountability, collaboration, and alignment with departmental and organizational priorities.
  • Represent Revenue Cycle leadership on committees, workgroups, and strategic initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
