Overview

Summary / Objective

The Assistant Manager, Conveyance supports the department manager in developing and managing overall production planning activities for the plant. This position focuses on maximizing customer service, on-time delivery, production utilization, material control, inventory control, and purchasing activities.

The role is responsible for supporting the receiving and material flow operations that supply parts to production lines. The Assistant Manager will help ensure efficient material availability, minimize production interruptions, and develop processes that support the plant's operational and growth objectives.

Essential Functions

• Ensure the safety of yourself and others by following all safety policies and procedures and wearing required PPE.
• Manage inventory levels, including establishing inventory goals, rotating stock, managing purchasing and supply base activities, and developing related methods and procedures.
• Develop long-range planning initiatives for the production control group by continuously evaluating plant needs, capacity, capital requirements, expenses, and other factors necessary to support growth.
• Establish effective communication with customers, business development, production, and other internal groups to ensure on-time delivery and team support.
• Minimize interruptions to production schedules through effective parts and materials procurement practices.
• Assist with planning the operating budget for areas of responsibility.
• Provide training and development opportunities for Conveyance team members to strengthen current and future performance capabilities.
• Maintain and develop network systems that provide access to plant manufacturing systems, streamline information, and generate reports.
• Support receiving and material flow activities to ensure parts are properly received and delivered to production lines.
• Monitor material availability and inventory levels to help prevent shortages and production downtime.
• Support JIT/Kanban material flow processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain regular attendance.
• Remain flexible and assist in other areas and duties as needed to support departmental goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications, Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or 4 years of equivalent work experience or training.
• Proficiency with computers and software applications.
• 2-3 years of supervisory experience in a production environment, preferably within the automotive industry.

Preferred Qualifications, Education & Experience

• Working knowledge of plant logistics, receiving, inventory control, and material flow processes.
• Experience with JIT/Kanban systems.
• Experience with Plex or other manufacturing ERP systems.
• Experience in automotive manufacturing or a similar high-volume production environment.

Work Environment

• Work is performed in an industrial office and plant environment.
• Frequent movement throughout the industrial plant with exposure to high noise levels and equipment commonly used in stamping, welding, and E-coat environments.
• Strong focus on workplace safety is required.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift up to 33 pounds.
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking on the plant floor.
• Ability to safely operate Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) equipment.
• Ability to traverse the entire plant facility.

Top Skills

1. Plant Logistics, Receiving & Inventory Control

Strong experience managing receiving, inventory levels, material flow, line-side supply, JIT/Kanban processes, and production material availability. Plex experience is a strong plus.

2. Manufacturing Leadership & Safety

2-3+ years of supervisory experience in a production environment, preferably automotive, with the ability to train and develop teams, enforce safe work practices, and maintain accountability.

3. Production Planning & Material Control

Ability to coordinate production requirements, prevent material shortages and downtime, manage supplier and purchasing activities, monitor inventory, and support production schedules.

Additional Information

• This position is part of the receiving operation and is responsible for receiving parts into the facility and supplying production lines.
• The department supports material flow throughout the plant using processes such as Kanban.
• Plex experience is a strong plus.
• Salary range is $80,000-$85,000 annually.
• Position is eligible for overtime.
• The Assistant Manager will work rotating shifts when the department is not fully staffed with two Group Leaders or when a Group Leader is out on PTO. Additional rotation may be required based on operational needs.
• Strong leadership, safety, material control, and communication skills are important for this position.
