Assistant Manager, Maintenance

We're looking for an Assistant Manager, Maintenance which is based at our Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge in Cooper Landing, AK. You'll be responsible for assisting in leading the team that maintains the overall workings of the hotel property, ensuring the facilities are clean and in good operating condition. You will provide reliability, dependability, and a positive attitude in a diverse environment as you support multiple departments. Tasks are accomplished through using a maintenance system for recording repairs/ inspections. The maintenance department is a team of three during the winter and nine during the summer with the onboarding of six seasonal staff members to help with inside/outside maintenance and grounds work.

Responsibilities

• Assists in managing the hotel maintenance activities, operations, and staff.

• Responsible for employment, supervision, performance management, salary administration, discipline, and training of directly assigned personnel.

• Contribute effectively to a positive employee experience while maintaining a professional attitude and appearance.

• Collaborates with other departments and supports HESS/SAY programs and participates in the training of seasonal maintenance team members.

• Oversee and performs preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment, facilities structures, and grounds.

• Observes operation of facility equipment, updating logs and documenting information.

• Applies knowledge of equipment, systems, and facilities maintenance; carpentry; heating and air conditioning systems; and grounds maintenance to repair or adjust as necessary to obtain safe and efficient operations.

• Support safety protocols and overall safety culture to maintain high standards of operation, cleanliness and organization in all work and storage spaces.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma / GED required. Professional level of knowledge in facilities maintenance management equivalent to that which would be acquired through experience or the completion of some college or an associate degree.

• Three years of progressively responsible positions in hotel property or facilities maintenance required. Journeyman experience, post-secondary technical certification, or license in carpentry, electrical, mechanical plumbing, or HVAC systems is preferred.

• Random drug screening and a valid driver's license for the operation of a motor vehicle with a clean driving record for the past three years.

• OIT and wastewater, Fireman's class stationary boiler's license preferred

• Proficiency in the use of computer business applications, with working knowledge of computerized maintenance systems.

• Must be comfortable to work both indoors and outdoors that could have exposure to various weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, noise, and temperature extremes.

• Must be able to frequently bend, stand, kneel, climb ladders, reach below and above shoulders, and crawl. Wrist, hand, and finger dexterity is required to operate various equipment and materials.

• The ability to lift 60 lbs./23 kg and occasionally move up to 100 lbs., work around equipment safely, and stand/walk for long periods of time.

• Must be available to work flexible hours, including varying shifts, weekends, extended hours, and on-call assignments as needed.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Holland America Line/Princess is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-1B status).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of facility maintenance materials, systems, tools, equipment, and applicable code requirements.

• Knowledge of OSHA requirements, workplace safety practices, and company policies and procedures.

• Ability to safely operate and train others on hand tools, power equipment, service vehicles, and carts.

• Ability to plan and coordinate work, including preventive maintenance, service requests, and work orders.

• Proficiency with computerized maintenance systems to maintain records, logs, inventories, purchasing information, and regulatory documentation.

• Ability to work independently, follow written and verbal instructions, maintain confidentiality, and comply with safety and regulatory requirements.

• Ability to clearly communicate, verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees, management, and customers

• The ability to support and comply with all company policies, procedures, guidelines, and safety standards, both at work and in housing (if applicable).
