United Independent School District Department of Human Resources ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL / SPECIAL POPULATION Elementary Campus Assignment Primary Purpose: Assist school principal in the administration duties and instructional programs for all special populations. Coordinate assigned campus activities and services. Achieve and maintain standards of excellence for all students in the content areas with a strong emphasis in the Science of Reading. Funded by Title I, Part A with the primary purpose of building and maintaining a strong foundation of reading and math as well as supporting teachers by reinforcing grant activities aimed at improving academic achievement for students struggling to meet academic standards. Educational Qualifications: Master's Degree Principal, Principal as Instructional Leader, or Mid-Management Certificate TEXAS-Teacher Evaluation Support System (T-TESS) TEXAS-Principal Evaluation Support System (T-PESS) preferred Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) or Instructional Leadership Development (ILD Grandfathered) Certificate At least five (5) years of experience as a classroom teacher preferred Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction The ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness The ability to manage budget and personnel and coordinate campus functions The ability to explain policy, procedures, and data Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assumes administrative responsibility and instructional leadership under the supervision of the Principal, for discipline and the planning, operation, supervision and evaluation of the educational program of the campus.
  2. Supports the implementation of all instructional programs and monitoring systems helping teachers to understand and implement said programs and systems.
  3. Collaborates in the development of instructional education programs to serve special populations.
  4. Supports and/or Leads Campus PLCs for effective lesson planning, instructional activities, timely progress monitoring of data, and MTSS implementation focused on student growth and achievement.
  5. Establishes and maintains a positive and caring climate that promotes learning and demonstrates respect and dignity for all students, teachers, support staff and colleagues at the campus and district level.
  6. Collaborates with campus staff, parents and community in the development of campus improvement plans.
  7. Coordinates the planning and delivery of campus based staff development to meet campus/district needs.
  8. Facilitates/coordinates classroom instruction through demonstration lessons with students allowing teachers to observe instruction.
  9. Observes employee performance, records walkthroughs, observations, and conducts evaluation conferences with staff, serving as an appraiser in the Texas Teacher Appraisal System (T-TESS).
  10. Assumes responsibility in the absence of the principal and assists in the administration of the daily operations of the campus.
  11. Conducts Compliance/Instruction training sessions/teacher observations for both Special Education and General Education teachers and staff as needed.
  12. Chairs assigned ARD/LPAC/504 meetings and pre-staffs to ensure that optimal student services are provided and compliance to program protocols are adhered to.
  13. Plans and coordinates educational strategies with campus administrators, foundation program teachers and instructional support staff as needed. Assistant Principal / Special Population (continued)
  14. Provides continual guidance and support by establishing and solidifying a partnership with campus-based and district administration and staff with a focus on student growth and lifelong learning.
  15. Provides ongoing training and support to campus-based and district staff on special population instructional and compliance issues as needed.
  16. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines and procedures.
  17. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job responsibility unless instructed to work from home by a supervisor.
  18. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during regular business hours to confer with campus and/or district personnel.
  19. Assists in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  20. Performs other campus duties and will be evaluated by the Campus Principal. Distance Learning and Virtual Instruction Duties and Responsibilities In the event of a school closure in response to a disaster, flood, extreme weather condition, fuel curtailment, epidemic, pandemic or other calamity, the following duties and responsibilities will be added to the above-listed Major Job Responsibilities and Duties, as directed by the Superintendent.
  21. Usage of personal equipment, including but not limited to personal cellular phone, personal computer, and personal internet service when working from home during a District closure due to government or Board orders or during an emergency affecting normal District operations.
  22. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives. Working Conditions: Ability to communicate (verbal and written); Interpret policies, procedures, and maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district and occasional statewide travel; prolonged and irregular hours. Some bending, lifting and stooping while performing job-related functions.
