Description:

To provide leadership in the implementation, coordination, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure that all students meet and exceed the New Jersey Department of Education's academic standards. Achieving excellence requires that the Principal works collaboratively to lead and nurture students and communicate effectively with parents, staff, students, and members of the community.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a New Jersey Principal Certification
  • Hold a Master's Degree with course work in curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Have a minimum of four years of successful experience as a teacher
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate people
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education
  • Required: physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status..

Reports To: Principal

Supervises: School Building Staff

Responsibilities:

  1. To assist with the planning and supervision of the district's curriculum, instruction, and assessment program.

  2. Prepare a detailed analysis of standardized test results along with a plan to correct deficiencies and build upon achievements

  3. To conduct in-service training, professional learning communities, and staff meetings to provide targeted and on-going professional development for staff members.

  4. To assist with the creation of the professional development plan for the school year that focuses on district goals.

  5. To develop and maintain an ongoing program of humanistic education.

  6. To assist in maintaining high standards of student conduct and enforcing discipline policies.

  7. To provide guidance to individual students, resolve individual behavioral problems.

  8. To assist in the preparation of required reports of violence, vandalism, substance abuse, and weapons.

  9. To assist in supervision of the cafeteria during lunch hours. Assist with playground supervision when assigned.

  10. To supervise extracurricular programs, assembly programs and assignment of faculty members to assist at school functions.

  11. To initiate and implement academic enrichment and remedial programs.

  12. To maintain data and action plans regarding student and staff attendance.

  13. To maintain data regarding student discipline and implement proactive initiatives to improve student conduct.

  14. To inspect the school buildings and grounds periodically to evaluate maintenance and custodial service.

  15. To greet visitors and provide information on the program of the school.

  16. To provide for the orientation of staff and proper communications thereafter.

  17. To be responsible for the administration of board policy and school regulations within the school areas.

  18. To engage in parent conferences and in conference dealing with repeated offenders to school rules, especially in cases of suspension or exclusion.

  19. To serve on district and other committees generally dealing with the advancement of education.

  20. To initiate and supervise effective guidance procedures to serve the individual needs of the students including testing.

  21. To plan and implement special school activities such as graduation, honor society, career day, etc.

  22. To develop rapport with the community through public relations including newsletters, attendance at meetings, and speaking engagements.

  23. To involve himself/herself in the Parent-Teachers Association as a member of the executive committee.

  24. To be directly involved with the interviewing and hiring of teacher candidates.

  25. To be directly involved and responsible for the observation and evaluation of staff as per district guidelines.

  26. To be held accountable for the continual development of good human relations including staff orientation, student participation, and community involvement.

  27. To be expected to exert leadership in the area of professional improvement by personal action, effective researches, and staff initiation.

  28. To carry out evaluative procedures as mandated by the State Department of Education.

  29. To engage in projected planning to implement programs for special services, health services, substitute teachers, student teachers, and clerical personnel.

  30. To arrange for an accurate inventory of materials and equipment.

  31. To handle complaints against the school and investigate each thoroughly to his/her satisfaction.

  32. To assist in conducting safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.

  33. To assist the principal in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria and other support services.

  34. To be responsible for the general morals of the school including staff, students and administration.

  35. To display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.

  36. To serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, and demonstrating the importance and the relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and pride in the education profession.

  37. To use effective presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents, and the community, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.

  38. To serve as building administrator in the absence of the Principal.

  39. To make recommendations to the principal for changes in policies, personnel practices and other such matters that may result in a more effective school administration.

  40. To perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal.

Terms of Employment:

Twelve (12) Month Tenure Track, Bargaining Position

Salary Range : $92,000 - $156,624
