Assistant Professor and Internship Coordinator - Graduate Psychology

The Department of Psychology & Social Work seeks applicants for a full-time ten-month faculty position as an Assistant Professor in the Master of Science Community Psychology Program beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. Our department is dedicated to identifying a colleague to support our mission of delivering a graduate program defined by its non-traditional student body and holistic approach to client care in which individuals are seen in the context of their community. Moreover, we are looking for a team member who will join in the program's commitment to preparing culturally responsive counselors.

The Assistant Professor & Internship Coordinator serves in a dual role, providing teaching, advising, and service within the Master of Science Community Psychology program while overseeing all practicum and internship placements. The position also maintains an active part-time clinical practice independent from Alverno College to support supervision eligibility, student training, and professional currency. The role ensures academic quality, strong community partnerships, and compliance with accreditation, licensure, and institutional standards. All faculty at Alverno College collaborate in curriculum development, teaching, learning, assessment, and program evaluation within the program and the curriculum at large. This includes instructional and administrative duties as necessary and assigned.

Faculty Responsibilities

• Teach a range of courses in our Master of Science in Community Psychology program. The faculty teaching load will require the teaching of theory and clinical supervision courses and include some weekends and evenings. Faculty members have the opportunity to teach in their interests within the program.
• Advise and mentor Master of Science Community Psychology students.
• Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation processes.
• Engage in scholarship and service consistent with program and institutional expectations.
• Engages in committee work with colleagues across the college.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Maintain a limited, part-time external clinical practice to support licensure, supervision eligibility and professional competency.
• Model ethical, culturally responsive, and community-based clinical practice for graduate students.

Internship Coordinator Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and oversee student practicum and internship placements.
• Review and approve internship sites to ensure alignment with program competencies and accreditation standards.
• Conduct site visits (virtual or in-person) and maintain active communication with site supervisors.
• Ensure qualified supervision is in place and expectations are clearly defined.
• Monitor student hours, supervision documentation, and learning agreements.
• Ensure timely completion of midterm and final evaluations by site supervisors and students.
• Cultivate and maintain community partnerships and manage affiliation agreements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable accreditation standards (e.g., American Psychological Association or Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs), and College policies.
• Collect and report internship data for program review and accreditation.

Qualifications and Education

• Doctoral degree in Psychology, Counselor Education or related Psychology field required.
• Licensed or license-eligible psychologist or counselor, as applicable.
• Demonstrated clinical experience in community-based or applied settings.
• Experience supervising graduate students or coordinating field placements.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and partnership-building skills.
• Experience and ease with teaching and learning in multiple modalities including in person, online and hybrid contexts.
• Knowledge of accreditation and compliance requirements.
• Willingness to learn and apply Alverno's outcomes-based approach to teaching and learning.
• Ability to respond appropriately in situations requiring crisis assessment or emergency referral.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards in clinical and educational environments.
• Ability to work required evening and weekend hours to accommodate teaching schedules, student needs, or community partnerships.
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment, and willingness to contribute to the College's strategic plan of inclusion.
