The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) , a leading academic health center, McGovern Medical School , Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition , is seeking applicants for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Medicine to serve as a GI Hospitalist at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. This faculty position is primarily focused on inpatient gastroenterology consultation and endoscopic care within a high‑acuity academic medical center. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive inpatient GI services while contributing to the Division's clinical, educational, and academic missions.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Serve as a GI Hospitalist, providing inpatient gastroenterology consultation for hospitalized patients.
  • Evaluate and manage acute gastrointestinal and liver conditions, including GI bleeding, anemia, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease flares, and abnormal liver function tests.
  • Perform inpatient endoscopic procedures, including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopy, as clinically indicated.
  • Provide coverage for urgent and emergent inpatient endoscopy in accordance with division call schedules.
  • Participate in daily inpatient rounds and coordinate care with hospital medicine, surgery, ICU, anesthesia, nursing, and case management teams.
  • Document consult recommendations, procedures, and follow‑up plans in compliance with institutional standards.
  • Participate in the education and supervision of gastroenterology fellows, residents, and medical students on the inpatient service.
  • Engage in academic activities consistent with rank, including teaching, scholarly activity, and service to the department and institution.
  • Support divisional quality, safety, and operational initiatives related to inpatient gastroenterology care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Gastroenterology
  • Eligible for full and unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Texas
  • Eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at McGovern Medical School
