Job Description

The Department of Classics at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Classics at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2027.

We seek a dynamic and dedicated teacher/scholar who will be enthusiastic about working closely with students, both on campus and abroad, and who will participate wholeheartedly in departmental and college-wide activities. We are particularly interested in applicants who can and will advance the College's goals for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The area of specialization is open, but expertise in classical languages and literature is essential. Teaching responsibilities include Greek and Latin language courses at all levels, classical civilization courses, and January-term courses, including ones taught in Greece or Italy. The ability to contribute to interdisciplinary programs (e.g., Enduring Questions, Environmental Studies, Film Studies) would be welcome.

Salary: $77,200 - $82,000

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in Classics or a related field by September 1, 2027.

Demonstrated strong teaching skills and scholarly promise, with the potential to involve students in mentored undergraduate research, are required.

About the Department

The Classics Department at St. Olaf offers majors in Classics, Latin, and Greek, as well as interdisciplinary majors in Ancient Studies and Medieval Studies. We endeavor to provide students with educational experiences that combine intellectual rigor with fun and excitement.
