Assistant Professor of Social Work - Behavioral Sciences Department

Position Description

The Social Work Program in Purdue University Northwest's Department of Behavioral Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position, as Assistant Professor. The position is ideally to begin August 16, 2027. Candidates must be able to 1) perform high-quality teaching, scholarship and service; and participate in student mentorship and events; 2) demonstrate commitment to promoting anti-oppressive social work practice in their role as faculty member; 3) collaborate with other department programs on curriculum, instruction, and other matters; and 4) teach introductory and advanced practice social work courses across BASW and MSW curriculum; 5) teach 4 courses each semester (tenure-track assistant professors normally have a reduced teaching load of 3 courses through penultimate year). While all areas of practice interests will be considered, individuals with focal teaching/research interests in mental health, de-addiction, and trauma-informed care are especially encouraged to apply. This position is benefits eligible.

Position Requirements for Assistant Professor

• Earned Doctoral Degree in Social Work or a closely related discipline by August 2027
• MSW from a CSWE-accredited program, or recognition of credentials by the International Social Work

Degree Recognition and Evaluation Service (ISWDRES)

Two years post-MSW practice experience and University teaching experience, preferred

The College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences serves over 1,400 undergraduate students and 170 graduate students across a wide range of programs. In addition to the Behavioral Sciences Department, other administrative units within the college include:
